Attendance Thread - Ipswich Town

no i dont not every week ! we have never been consistantly been near full capacity (allowing for away support) and im not sure what our practical true capacity is ?i know its not the 49,000 often stated and its probably (since away support in n upper)around the 47000 mark ..I really think iptv has taken its effect on supporter numbers actually wanting to go to matches. We are never going to be challenging for a top ten spot on a consistent basis with our present owners so no ...The price of building (50 -80 million would be my guess to extent south stand )work and the revenue made from 7-8 ,0000 supporters is not enough for our owners to expand the ground they will simply put up season ticket prices and make more money from that with no outlay.
They'll utilise happily what seems to be a practical capacity nowadays of 46K. For reasons some said we should not have extended in first place, ie encourage 'scarcity' and need for fans to secure seats. They're clearly building on a strong season ticket base of very reasonable family group prices with match day tickets going up a lot more by comparison.

Of course we should have extended, if we didn't people would have been locked out tomorrow.
That's a live on sky game in the championship never mind a big Premier league game.

I know....but many seasons in past since SoL opened we averaged 40k or less. I've seen them all. And although not sure on numbers (was anybody) the club discounted tickets by different means to boost attendances on top of existing concession prices. Some said if capacity left at 42k no need for that.

The away fans were behind the goal on the south stand. The se corner was a family area, as thats where my children and I sat, when the ground first opened. The sw corner, housed the crazy gang.

The area you refer to is the away support.

This was one of the reason givens for moving the away support to the upper north stand.
He is on about Elland Road.
The poster he was replying to (and addressed as "yous") is a Mag pretending to be a Leeds fan.

Nobody's saying we'll extend the ground.
Nobody's saying this ownership will get us consistently challenging for top eight.

Hypothetically they're saying if we were challenging let's say for top six season after season the ground would be to small, which it would be.
At one stage the SoL was at 42k and we had to extend to 49k because it wasn't big enough. The capacity now is roughly 46k. If we do find ourselves back in the PL and in the top 8 we would at least draw 46/49k.

I can remember when the SOL first opened, it was said that we had the most female season tickets holders of any ground in England.

Some people complained that there was far too many women in the ground, so they could not swear.

I think that might have changed "when I was young and had no sense"

times change and that has been immeasurable in the 20+ years that the stadium has been open.
Hetton lass had 12000 season tickets man

It’s changed. Why are people looking at 20 year ago as an example. We are near capacity for playing in the 2nd division.

Correct build up a healthy season ticket base and rip off those who cant go all the time.. less match day sales less ticket office staff..

Definite minimum £40/£45 a ticket if we went up

Because the historical context is relevant. Just until very recently, never mind 20 years ago, the current capacity seemed excessive in the context of it rarely being hit.
