Australia's attack is alot better then most people are giving them credit for. Cook is out of nick. Root is opening in internationals for the 1st time and KP is coming back from injury.

I'm not surprised as I always said it would be close. If we swapped Anderson for their best bowler they would be the better side, I think there's little more in it than that. Australia aren't as bad as they were made out to be and England not as good.

Cook has been out of nick since the last Ashes, he's a good batsman no doubt but he's not looked it for a while, obviously very young. KP isn't a force anymore in my opinion, a match winner on occasion for sure and I'd rather him than someone worse but each of the top 5 teams in the world can say the same of one of their middle order as well.

I'm pretty sure that up until this series, Cook was averaging somewhere around 70 since taking over as captain.

1 question
can anyone tell me why these ashes are back to back, don't remember it happening before
also what is the point of it

Erm, I presume you are meaning attack rather than team (cos we have a better top 6 without question) and thus have failed to spot the Aussies dont have a spinner

Do we? Australia's batting average coming into the series was about 100 greater than England's

I'm just saying that England aren't nearly as good as was made out beforehand, Australia not nearly as bad, and neither nealry as good as the current no 1 in the world

First morning you reckon 85/2 would be a draw at lunch? Possibly a bit more today with conditions being what they are?

Not that far behind.....

All the reports I read coming into the series was about how good an attack the Aussies have.

Cook, Anderson, Pietersen, Prior and Swann and thats without even thinking about it.

KP over either Kallis or amla?

Didn't read anyone saying that other than the now sacked Aussie coach. Read plenty taking the piss out of it though.

But their batting average per session over the last year is around 400, Englands 320.

By having these back to back there will be a longer break before the next Ashes series in Australia. The idea is to avoid playing the Ashes in Australia then heading straight to the World Cup afterwards as has been the case on previous tours
