Assume you feel the same way about cash only places?Discrimination? So if you don't have a bank card or phone say you're homeless or have fallen on hard times you can't buy a bottle of water even though you have the cash? Can't be right. Disgusting actually.
Should try and accommodate both but no isn't the same. People with a card will be able to go and access cash people without cards, phones etc are just forced out of society all together. As mentioned above homeless and vulnerable could be left unable to buy water or warm clothing.Assume you feel the same way about cash only places?
Still a canny chunk out of their profit if all of those customers go elsewhere.Less than 10%
Yeah but let’s be realistic, not all 10% would go just because they have to use a debit card. It’s not really a big ask in 2024Still a canny chunk out of their profit if all of those customers go elsewhere.
And it's all about profit with the big supermarkets.
Do it at this Asda when the change happens and let me know so I can come and observe. It wouldn't be because they would take the cash in that situation.
I've done this is restaurants that 'don't take cash' but then change their mind strangely.

With no staff in a kiosk or on the forecourt it could be trickyDo it at this Asda when the change happens and let me know so I can come and observe.
Wait, you’ll do absolutely nothing of the sort
Cash is legal tender.
If i had only cash and they didn't want to take it I'd just take my groceries and leave

Yes I've read the article the conversations moved on from that, it's a direction places are going and will implement if they can get away with it.It's probably a good idea to read the article on the link first
You're probably right, but old folks can be stubborn gits when they want to be.Yeah but let’s be realistic, not all 10% would go just because they have to use a debit card. It’s not really a big ask in 2024
Not ‘if’, no one can stop them.Yes I've read the article the conversations moved on from that, it's a direction places are going and will implement if they can get away with it.

The pre-authorised amount disappears pretty quickly, usually within an hour or so in my case. What Asda a doing is more problematic as it potentially rules out using debit cards. They're getting rid of the kiosks & making it pay at the pump. With pay at the pump they don't just charge what you used, they put on a £100 pre auth charge. So if you've only got less than that in the bank, they won't let you purchase petrol anyway. I'm not sure if that £100 hangs on for a couple of either as you could effectively be prevented from spending your own money for a few days. (I know Curve do this l) I'm 99% cashless, but I won't be using Grangetown Asda anymore for petrol.
