During what period? And anything substantial to back that up??

Funny thing is, all the years of attending and paying for season cards I’ve never had tickets just handed to me for nothing.

If 5k have been floating about must have been unlucky?!
Never 5k a time , no way
The University and Schools were regularly handed batches of comps but never anywhere near that scale
If us and Wednesday were in the final it would beat that City/Gills record.
Comfortably mate.
Be a Pompey JPT re run attendance wise

I think even our own fans underestimate how big our support is. If we had a team like Man City's it would be mental.
The thing is mate your statement is spot on 100 percent accurate yet for some bizzare and weird reason there will be some posters on here who will take offense by it and try and pull together some facts and figures to prove otherwise.

I mean if you were an ugly man but you had a massive cock you would show it off

They were given to schools, you must have a short memory if you cant remember huge blocks of kids in the ground in the early to mid 2000's. Can't recall if it was Short or Drumaville who put the block on it. The Mags feasted out on it for years before handing 10000 free season tickets out themselves. Of course it wasn't publicised by Murray but anyone connected with ticketing at the club at the time would verify it. My wife was at Sunderland Uni at the time and they got tickets for a fiver, they offered them out to all the students at that price.

Same area, same time. Neither seen these free tickets, just our luck eh?

Gutted mate, could have saved my season card money and spent more going out in Shields on a Thursday night 😂

Having went the school and attending regularly/ season cards from the last few seasons at Roker to moving the SoL I’ve been really unlucky as have my mates not to get these mythical free tickets.

Its spot on that of we were even semi-successful we'd need a bigger ground. Imagine if we went on a run like Leicester and got some what regular European football. We sell out Wembley for a league one play off or and checkatrade trophy ffs.

My wife got tickets for every game through the Uni for a fiver, maybe an exaggeration to say theybwerecall for free but we we were selling them for next to nowt and it was in the 7th placed seasons as well, more so as we declined under Reid.

Of course I remember blocks of kids, I was one of them! Half my year at school had season cards in the NE corner for years after the SoL first opened.

I’m not staying there wouldn’t have been any tickets handed over for community causes (like all clubs) but 5k is definitely over egging it.

We had far more kids and lasses attending the SoL because football became more accessible, with better facilities and fashionable again in the late 90s.

You just have to look at our historical attendances to back up my first comment IF we were competing at the top / Europe for a sustained period, the SoL would need to be considered for extension.

No idea on numbers but there were definitely free tickets for schools in the early 00s. I got a lot of them... Matches against Port Vale, Crewe and Bury spring to mind.
I know my kids got them as well mate.

I dont think that's in doubt, 31000 average after 4 seasons in league one tells you we are in the top 5 in the country.

Let's not forget we were regularly handing out 5000 free tickets, an inconsiderate truth. I'd say our support now is on a much higher level which is bizarre after the shite we've endured. The support is actually becoming more ardent in adversity, true support not glory seekers.
Fuck off man, don't believe all the mag driven shite that you might hear. As others have said, they've been attending for years and never had a sniff of one. You even contradict yourself when mentiononing your wife working at the uni and giving out £5 tickets to students. Whats free about them? Prick.

All hypothetical anyway, no way we’ll be challenging at the top any time soon (if ever) the way the game has moved on!!

You'd be surprised, or maybes not, how many folk Man Utd and Man City ship in for their midweek games.

I would honestly say our support is more resolute now, we regularly averaged 25-27k before Keane took over and that was a division higher. The supporters are more resolute now and have a "fuck you, we are Sunderland mentality".

Despite it being played down or always getting the credit it deserves our support is 2nd to none.

IF we we’re ever to compete at the highest level, the SoL would need extending.
And that was the plan- we just need to sort out the ‘competing at the top’ bit.

I don't doubt it, and I think they would struggle to match our support in the situation. I think a few people have rose tinted specs on though regarding what Murray did when he wanted to usurp the Mags, he hated John Hall and competed for everything especially after they stole the Sunderland basketball and the Durham Wasps for the Jawdee Nashun shite.
