Are Forest a big club

They should probably be bigger.

Generally, club status should track city size, especially if you are a one club city. That’s why the Mags and Leeds especially are big clubs.

Some cities are just crazy football city’s and that’s how they punch above their weight. That’s our criteria.

Nottingham is a big city, definitely - should be not far from Leeds or Mags, really. On the other hand, Bristol is big city too.

So, biggish, but not big.
And Bradford. Big city, probably more into their 'wugga'.

Do your research, I’m not doing it for you to pick apart. Not a scooby. ps…Think you need to concentrate closer to home, as having one of the biggest catchment areas in Britain with what can only be described as moderate support at best.
OPs a complete fence post man.

seems reasonable to suggest back in the old days the mags would've established a bigger initial fanbase due to their location/catchment area

Not really, no. They've been sh1te for the vast majority of my lifetime (I'm 38), and almost all of their success occurred in a 9 or 10 year spell under 1 manager, 40 years ago. Did pretty much sod all before that and sod all since. And never get big crowds.

Medium sized club at best who had a genius of a manager during 70/80s had shit crowds for years while out of the PL

Idiot
Remind me, what were Sunderland average crowds while out of the 1st division in 80s and 90s and 00s?

Iirc, 11k in ‘86, 12k in ‘87, 17k in ‘96, 27k in ‘04, 28k in ‘05 (and I was one of them)

How big was Roker Park, or are you too young and ignorant to knarr your own klerrb?

Well Forest's record attendance ever, is an attendance that we've almost matched several times while in League 1...

Our record attendance is 30k higher than theirs. Of course at the end of Roker the capacity was vastly reduced, and attendances were poor in general. Historically though, we've had vastly better attendances than them consistently.

They've averaged 30k+ twice since the mid-60s, and only 4 times in 113 years. How many times have we averaged over 30k?...Weve managed it 41 times since 1948! Hell's tits, we've done it as many times since we were relegated to League 1, as Forest have done it since 1925!! 😄

Nah not big at all but had a very very successful spell late 70s , a lot more successful than most clubs. Must have been a great time for them but what have they done since, got promoted and relegated a few times like Sunderland and are currently having a spell in the premier league again

How come Ipswich never get talked about in a similar breath? They won a European cup back in the 80s.

I don't think Nottingham forest are a big club nowadays. It's nearly 50 years since their European wins. Way in the past. Surely big club is based on more recent success than 50 years ago
how would people rank:
Forest
Derby
Leicester

In terms of size of club?
Forest
Leicester
Derby

But don't think any of those are really big clubs

all much of a muchness, very similar, big clubs not giants
That's nonsense. Sunderland have a small catchment area for one and are a big club.

Some clubs with huge catchment areas don't get huge crowds because they are not doing well, stadium capacity, etc etc.

It's not always as black and white as you make out.
Rubbish Newcastle and Sunderland share Northumberland Co Durham and what used to be Tyne and Wear, That's about 2 mill people, enough to get good crowds.

Crowds weren’t great anywhere really in the 80s dipstick

Forest didn’t get an average over 20k between 82 and 88 despite being a huge club in the old division 1 😀🙄

There's no way Sunderland and Newcastle share Northumberland, it's vast majority mag.
Co Durham is shared unfortunately, as Newcastle is much easier to get to and actually nearer for many of its areas.

If they have a lot of money at their disposal they are a big club that appears to be todays yardstick! /..otherwise they are a very old club with a decent period under cloughie but nor a big club!

Spot on.
People on here not all aren’t able to distinguish between a word for size and a word for achievement. Size = big/small/medium etc. Forest are a medium sized club. Who put our 70s - 90s ownership to shame.
