Thanks very much for that.

I'm really tempted to go for the HX7, but for the extra money, is it worth going for the HX9 ?

Jsut seen some reviews of the Canon PowerShot SX220, and it doesn't look good - so back to the 2 sony's.
Unless anyone has anything else to suggest?

Been using my Canon Powershot S95 for a couple of weeks now, it's brilliant. Few examples below.

Only downside against your specs is that's it's only a 3.8x zoom. Optical quality is superb throughout all focal lengths.

The Sony shots that IHBB has posted look brilliant mind.

Off to Curry's to have a play with the 2 sony ones - want to make sure they're not too big.

Canon Ixus are a great model. Have a skwy on some digital camera review sites and see what's coming out on top.

The problem with taking an age to take a pic is that most will auto focus when you press the button, which is what takes so long.

Its took me this long to work out the difference between the IXUS and the Powershot range. Then on top, they have the S range.

All very similar mind, but for fucks sake, how many fuckers do Canon want?

Read a lot more reviews these last 2 days. Found that for some reason, reviews on the Canon SX220 were 3-4/5, but the reviews for the SX230 were pretty much the absoulte best on the market.

The single difference between these cameras is the GPS unit that was added to the SX230. Costs another ~£40 for this, and its a feature I've no interest it.

Went to Curry's last night to have a play with an HX9V and was very impressed - but I'm going to go back tonight and have a look at the SX220. Its about £50 cheaper and seemingly takes better pictures at the cost of a smaller zoom (but well within my acceptable range) + the lack of GPS makes for better battery life, which sounds quite poor for this camera, but we're not the type of people to take a gazillion shots in one day - 200 is more than plenty

Job Done.

Had a play with the SX220 and then the HX9V again on Friday after work - still probably prefer the Sony, but the Canon is a little bit smaller (these are fairly chunky for compacts) - which is pretty important.

Also, had a look around, and found a corking deal on the SX220 on the Ebuyer website. Not only was it £10-20 cheaper than everywhere else, it comes with a free Canon powershot case, and a 2GB Canon memory card.

Also - and I'm loving this - Canon have put £30 cashback on a bunch of their cameras, and this one is one of them.

So £157 including a case and extra memory card.

happy days.

Cheers for all the advice everyone.

Never really went for the compact cameras. I have the Sony DSC-H20 and though it looks like a compact it acts like an SLR. The sort more serious photographers use.
