Any decent free agent central defenders going?

Think you can count onien as a centre back now (at the very least as cover) with the arrival of another centre mid.

3 centre backs still isnt enough like mate, I think last season proved that.

Doyle hasnt played well all season like, he is a promising player but has had some shocking performances, to say otherwise is incorrect. We've let in a ton of goals.

You need options, for form, for injury etc, for covid.
He's first choice is what I said.

Club seem intent on playing 4 at the back. They must feel 3 plus Xhemalji is enough. I don't think Younger and Alves were ever really in the equation.

As I said, I'd have kept Flanagan, but it's basically been one in and one out as far as the first team is concerned. So nothing much has changed since the first half of the season, yet everybody's suddenly losing their shit about us being short at the back.

am not losing me shit like, we just are short, wright's always injured too

Xhemajli will factor and I assume we have Younger on a string should we need him.

Then there's also O'Nien should we need him.

Well, if we are we are. Our first choice pairing will be playing on Saturday.

I think the fact that we couldnt make a change at centre back even if we wanted the week after the worst result and performance in the club's history kind of proves my point mate!

I'm not convinced that would be the correct course of action regardless.

Maybe it's a bit old fashioned, but I think they need to get out and respond.

It's a concern because we were already struggling defensively, particularly away from home. Batth was the right kind of addition, but we should have kept Flanno and signed another CB.

It's a bit of a risk tbf. However the ultimate reality is that we have swapped out Batth for Flanagan - undoubtedly an improvement - and have forgone the availability of two defenders who have contributed the grand total of 44 mins of league football to SAFC in over half a season. With O'Nien nearing a return and no room for him in the midfield inn, it's a gamble - but probably not as big a one as people think.

Exactly.

Be just our luck now for Batth to do his ACL on Saturday.

Oh aye:lol:

But this is what you do when you build a squad. Do we spread our resources thinly and add more and more layers of cover (of less and less quality) and allow that to have a knock-on to the level of starter quality we choose? Or do we put most of our money into a tight group of higher quality players and cross our fingers a bit? I'd argue that injury to starters sees us fucked either way. At least by having that smaller squad we can afford a better class of player. And there's always a chance that we make a welcome discovery from the youths too - which is a big part of what the club is trying to do anyway.
