These lads were all playing in league one 4 seasons agoThe one player i feel abit sorry for. Roefs is clearly an upgrade and there’s no doubt we needed to improve in that area but just think it leaves Patterson in a tough spot. He’s been numher 1 for the last 3/4 seasons and now with the position he plays and fact we out the cup he might not kick a first team ball till the fa cup in January. He would be number for the majority of the championship and teams aboad. It’s different for Neil Roberts Rigg etc as they outfield players and are 1/2 injuries away from starting and have opportunities to also come off the bench. We obviously need a good number of 2 so it’s ideal for the club having a competent goalie pushing Roefs and always have that security blanket if a injury occurred but it must be abit shite for Patterson
Feeling sorry is tongue in cheek mate they obviously still have lives we could all dream of but in a professional sense he’s in abit of a shitter. Basically like ive said he wont kick a ball for the next 4 months at leastThese lads were all playing in league one 4 seasons ago
They are now in a premier league squad.
What a life , don't feel sorry for them
Hope soI think there'll be bids for him and Roberts tomorrow.
Just my guess
If he has any ambition he will move onYet he’s absolutely miles ahead of the other 2 keepers. We’ve improved on him, he’s a decent 2nd choice keeper. No problem with him staying as that.
Yeah, but he's a young lad whose no 2 at top premier club who will be playing in Europe next season !Feeling sorry is tongue in cheek mate they obviously still have lives we could all dream of but in a professional sense he’s in abit of a shitter. I do that every dayI’d love to sit on the bench at work and pick up a wad every week

Terrifyingly soIsn't Patterson 1 injury away from starting?
Yeh this. We can all see the need for this so presumably he and or someone at the club did to. The fact that he seems not to have worked on then smacks either of arrogance or laziness. I like the lad but to be honest how often have we said on this board something like 'there are other positions we need to look at first' rather than praising Patto as such. In the top flight though being not so much of a problem than another position isn't good enough. He simply refused to work on his glaring weaknesses. His commanding of his area and distribution. It’s been a massive weak point from day one and it never improved in the slightest so he’s now not playing. That’s life.
You're kind of assuming that penalty takers are doing the old school "pick your spot and go for it". The current obsession with stuttering runs is based on trying to get the keeper to commit, then choosing. They wouldn't have necessarily gone down the middle.Well, I didn’t call him a bellend, because he didn’t act the bellend.
Can we not criticise players because we like them and they’ve done great things? I’m not saying peddle him. I’m not saying he’s shit. I’m not even saying he played badly.
But if an opposition goalkeeper pranced around the line, trying to psyche out our players and we scored six penalties, I think we’d be all over him. It was a daft and he should learn from it.
There were penalties where, because he was jumping around, he was starting in an odd position. And half of them just went down the middle. If he’d been a little less pre-mediated, he’d have saved some.
Ok, he may have tried but hasn’t improved. We needed better. Got better, we move on.He simply refused to work on his glaring weaknesses. Have a think about that and how daft it sounds.
As if the management team at SAFC during his time, the goalkeepering coaches etc won't have worked on those weakness and tried to improve them.
Some will only ever reach a certain level, regardless of how much they try. You or me have no idea how much effort he's put into it - yet you make him sound like a pub player. He's played almost 150 championship games and been capped by England U21. No one expected any of that when he went out to Notts County and we'd signed Hoffmann.
Roefs distribution is night and day compared to pattosSaid last season that if we got promoted we would need a much better keeper. Got a number of posters saying I was talking shit.
Three games in it’s obvious how limited Patterson is compared to the new lad.
Would love to see a local lad do well at the club but pattersons footwork is weak, can’t command the box and his fitness is shocking for a pro athlete.

Lad who was in the youth setup with him told me he was the laziest player he had played with in training. This was before all the Fatto stuff too.Can you explain how I’m wrong?
I judge on what I see, ie spending the majority of last season around 2 stone overweight, warming up yesterday at half time like a fat lad going to slimming world with his mam. He’s obviously not a grafter and if you didn’t know what he done for a living you’d never guess he was an elite athlete. I’m in far better shape and I’m 40
Correct like everyone sitting on bench now from last season, some might have a chance if they are patient and work hard but that’s down to themHe’s simply not good enough for the premier league
I agree, he was happy with his lot and no ambition too improveNo signs of him improving his footwork and so he had to be replaced.
He was in the driving seat, but hasn’t helped himself.
I’m not sure that he’ll put any pressure on Roefs and will not displace him
You can tell by just looking at him, looks like he’s never set foot in a gym in his lifeLad who was in the youth setup with him told me he was the laziest player he had played with in training. This was before all the Fatto stuff too.
