Another youngster heading off

Ah OK, so he's in the same bracket as Ryan Noble and Richie Ryan then.

He played 45 minutes for one of the worst Premier League sides in recent years, losing the game 0-5 and the poor lad was widely ridiculed (have a listen to the Guardian's podcast on the game). He hasn't played since at that level. He's subsequently joined a side hopelessly out of their depth at Championship level, and after a handful of starts, quickly fell out of the team and barely makes the bench now. You'd think the club had lost the plot if we spent £315k on someone who couldn't get any minutes at Peterborough this season. Good luck to the lad, good kid but time has now shown it was a good deal and the club were right to sell him. He'll likely carve out a career for himself at the lower end of League One or more likely League Two. I respect people have their own views but perhaps the conspiracy nuts and the Bali cult club who have been desperate to discredit me on that can now hold their hands up. I won't hold my breath though.
He's 20, whether you like it or not he's still at a higher level than us and has been since we sold him after a daft loan spell at South Shields. If the lad absolutely bombs through the leagues like those other players you mentioned then you might be right, until then though you aren't.

I'm sorry, but he's actually almost 21 and it's been four years since he made his debut, and he's never been able to hold down a place in a team at various professional levels since. You'd have to admit that all evidence points to him being another Noble at this point, and that we've done very well off the deal. Of course you can say that he might come good further down the line at 22, 23, 24 or later but take that approach with all our youth players and the club would soon be bankrupt. He scored a goal in the cup against non-league opposition and many tried to use that to discredit my view, so why shouldn't I be entitled to seek some humility from the same posters?

Anyway, that's all I want to say on the matter. The thread should be discussing this junior.

He’d be playing for us regularly instead of the expense of another signing. As would Hugill, Pye and Greenwood. All regressive thinking from the austerity brothers.

So he’s 20, then?

1 million to a 3rd tier club for a 14 year old.
Crazy not to take it.
The kid will probably never be heard of again until he turns out for N Shields in 5 years time .
The stats back that up. 95% of these kids crash and burn.
North Shields in 5 years? 😂😂😂

To be fair this kid sounds a tremendous prospect but it is also true to say the best kids at 14 don't always end up the best at 18 and onwards. The top clubs don't mind gambling but the cast their net wide. Look at Liverpool's academy and it will be full of prospects from round the UK but also from Spain, France etc.

I've seen plenty of him and youth football to know enough about his potential. I agree about pushing on into men's football is the biggest challenge from youth to adult game. He'll be playing 23s next season here.

Any club in league one would struggle to keep hold of their best young players...we are no exception...

Do you think he'll stay or go? As an aside I looked at the England U17 WC winning squad from 2017 and they had an amazing squad with Foden, Sancho, Hudson-Odoi. However, some of the squad seem to have careers which are starting to fizzle out. It's such a gamble for youngsters and they need careful management, luck and good coaching. We all know Henderson's youth career.

I'm not going to comment on the stay/go thing, it will be very tough to hold on. Yeah the England set up is great recognition but doesn't guarantee anything. I hope he stays, a serious talent. But he's one of several around this age group who will be linked with clubs in the next 12 months or so.

Crazy money for his age which tells you how much he’s rated.

Hopefully we keep him and he goes on to be a first teaser for us but we can’t compete as much while we’re at this level.

Despite some thinking if someone isn't playing by 21 they're finished he's still very young. It's been a few years that's very true and he's still at Norwich, so he clearly has something about him that he hasn't dropped to our level yet, obviously that could all change in the next window.

I'm not sure it does point to him being another Noble to be honest but hopefully the lad goes on to have a great career. There can't be too many who've gone from being on loan to South Shields to being sold to a club in a higher division than the parent club.
