Aye. Same. Been watching him broad and jimmy for most my life

I couldn’t believe this fuckin post like

Pretty shameful to try and spin it to have ago at him.

You even used the phrase jobs for the boys ffs

He's not died you big fanny.

I deliberately separated out the tribute and debate, as it wasn't clear what this thread was supposed to be about.

And I only challenged why we still have this situation where some players are allowed to decide when they get dropped. Ian Bell by contrast was dropped without his consent, went back to Warwickshire, scored runs and asked to be reconsidered for selection.

His average is impressive but only tells a small part of the story. Adam Voges has the 2nd best test average of all time, not many people would suggest he's the 2nd best test batsman of all time.
Wtf, Cooks maybe has played a year too long at international level but he’s one of the greatest batsmen this country has ever had.

Burns has to be given a chance now in my opinion.

That can't make you much older than 14.

It will be Burns, they've been grooming him in the Lions. The question is whether they pair him with Jennings, or bring Stoneman back.

Maybe because he averaged 50 odd last year and we’ve been trying for years to replace Strauss

You give your best players every chance to discover their best form, it’s just common sense

The years when I travelled home and abroad to watch them yes

As mentioned, that average was inflated by 243, and 244 not out: 50% of his runs in 2 out of 20 innings.

He could recover that form at Essex. Like Ali did with Worcestershire.

I wouldn't have dropped him anyway. I'd have moved him down to three, fired Ramprakash and brought in a new batting coach. It's a measure of how low esteem he held Bloodaxe in when he appointed his own personal batting coach.

I suspect a big part of this is not wanting to spend the winter on tour, when he has three young kids, which is understandable.

I'm not disputing that. Nearly every post I've made on this thread, I have given him praise. He is the best English batsman of all time but I still stand by my point that he has been in serious decline from his previous high standards for a few years now, which is clear for all to see.

Enjoy family life Alistair you have been a wonderful cricketer for England and you have always conducted yourself in a manner which upholds the ethics and high standards of behaviour of cricket

Voges played 20 tests, Cook played 160. Absolutely ludicrous comparison

Talking about his future down the pub yesterday and the general consensus was that he'd be dropped after this series unless he had a 100+ innings in the 5th test.

Seems to me that he's been given the option to jump before being pushed. He'll be a big miss and its one massive hole to fill in the future.

Just for the record he retired of his own accord. He wasn't pushed out before the winter tours

Of course it is, hence why I said an average only tells part of the story.

I don't think you understand the significance of an average as a statistic. The bigger the sample size, the more accurate the figure is.

To have played 800% more games, means the average means a hell of a lot more. Which is what makes it a ludicrous comparison.

His bowling average is 7
