Adam Johnson appeal

You're suggesting an appeal attempt by the highest profile sex offender ever in this region wasn't worthy of front page news in the regions biggest newspaper?
I'm suggesting nothing of the sort. It's the manner of it that rankles with me.

If you had left when you said you were going to an hour ago I wouldn't have posted again. You were just obviously just talking shite like you always do.
So? I might stay on this thread just to shout down any Johnson-apologists.

How do you like them onions.

Ok. So why then doesn't the law treat it more seriously when someone punches someone and they DONT die. Or when someone drink drives and no one is injured? I agree the consequences are likely - they're likely for anyone who does it. The discrepancy in punishment between 6 points for using a phone if no one dies and 10 years if someone does is stupid. It should be community service/ suspended sentence if you're caught with a phone and no one hurt, a couple of years if you kill someone, maybe suspended.

Why is it a problem if there are degrees of punishment for degrees of consequence? It applies for assault cases, theft, speeding and probably plenty of other instances. It seems that you mainly think the higher penalty is too severe. That will always be debatable and different people will have different opinions, as will individual judges. But someone who causes a death by knowingly breaking the law surely doesn't deserve leniency?

Personal view is intent is much more important than consequences. As a society we've increasingly moved towards sentencing on consequences and I just don't really agree. E.g. I rape someone and they happen to be resilient and it doesn't affect them much vs I do the exact same act and they can't handle it and commit suicide. My view would be both should be sentenced equally harshly because my intent and actions were the same in both. The consequences after are almost random. I should be punished for what I did, why I did it etc not what that then resulted in.

Fair enough, but I am happy with proportionate sentencing based on consequences, else we might all get sent to jail for talking on out mobiles.

So that makes it all alright? Let him out. In fact don't bother pursuing cases like this.

Am not getting at you here neccesarily, but the amount of posters on here coming up with excuses for a convicted sex offender is incredible.

It certainly seems that the majority abandoned the thread as soon as the apologists appeared.
What a lot of people are disputing is the severity of the sentence marra.

I see we've returned to victim blaming. I feel no sympathy for a man who took advantage of a 15 year old girl and strung our club along till the court date. Gets everything he deserves, hope he has to serve the full sentence.
Yea bastard stringing our club along!! If it hadn't been for his goal against Liverpool on his last appearance we would have been watching championship football, and not this shite

It's a worthwhile debate. But some people have got a 'severity of sentence' debate mixed up with their own warped moral code and argued that some other cases somewhere else with different circumstances mean he was harshly treat.

I dont think people should be questioning the severity of the sentence, rather the leniency of other sentences for similar crimes. In my opinion anyone that engages in any form of sexual activity with a minor deserves atleast 6 years. The victim blaming is also absolutely pathetic.

Id have treated his appeal like those frivolous appeals in football. He pleaded guilty yet asked for an appeal? Id have added years to his sentence as he clearly isnt showing remorse.
