I knew he wasn't American at the time so I can't judge it as such. But he did an interview discussing The Wire etc, and said he couldn't get a job for a long time after arriving in America on account of not being able to do the accent. People thought he had it down for The Wire though.

Seen some quip from some yank politician on twitter the other day about Damian Lewis doing a weird British accent. Could have been sarcasm but then he was American.
