Absolute joke at the end . . .

An escort of that size just attracts attention for me. All the way there there was idiots trying to cause scraps in th escort. Can't imagine there would have been anywhere near as much trouble if the police weren't there as it was very obvious 95% of those giving it large wouldn't have done so without the police protecting them.

Yes and no. They could have done no escort but the demographic in our yesterday was massively different to what it’d be at, say Reading on a Tuesday night. I reckon it would almost certainly have kicked off under the road bridge etc as it has before, so I’ve got sympathy with the police.

People saying blend in, but it’s obvious when you turn right out of the away end bit that you’ve been in our section just from the direction that you’re walking in.

Hartlepool used to have a load of nutters. Remember then once really giving a hiding to Bristol city firm when I was just ambling up church street. Think most of them are dead or don’t go anymore. Back then York would have loved the police escort.

Years ago I left my car at boro at a night game. We arrived late and parked wherever we could. Coming out there was loads of fighting in the streets but generally because of numbers it was ok. The car was parked where there was loads of boro flashing knives. Seeing them we walked back to the buses to the station and got the train. Arrived in Hartlepool and loads of mags were waiting but they were all about 15 and a well known Hartlepool lad walked straight into the middle of them and offered them all out. No one took him up on it. I think this was around 85. Was the first year I’d been to boro when we didn’t take the piss due to numbers. Maybe the time Frontline got organised? Thankfully a peaceful night in the end but didn’t get home till about midnight as my mate had to drive us back to get my car
They weren’t organised in 86 just after Boxing Day mind.

We ran amok.

It was f***ing ridiculous and there is no way in the world that it made trouble less likely. Pretty much nobody in the escort was wearing colours and once people had got ten yards away out of the ground nobody would have had a clue who supported who in the same way as nobody did before the game. As it was you had at least one lad in our support chucking coins at the Boro fans.
it's as though they actually want a bit bother to either keep their hand in or to justify whatever it it they charge the clubs. we were right next to their fans and the little bit of shenanigans after they'd scored was sorted out in the main by the stewards who dragged one nitwit out whereby the police took over. it's quite a bit disheartening to watch folk that will no doubt be earning a pittance sorting stuff out whilst the police with full riot gear on just stand there and video the fans.

Some of their fans were literally walking to the left of us and then turning right too??

Police won't like this? How are they going to get double time for standing around for 8 hours?
The most boring nonsense that gets trotted out onhere as some sort of dig at the coppers.

They’re on a cancelled day off. No extra money for derby games

Just for factual accuracy like

Same every time one of these comes round

The vast majority of people will have went to that game with no bother and got home the same. Those who go looking for it or want to whinge will find what they want. They’re the minority

😆😆fair enough then

just one of those topics that comes up time and time again whenever these kind of threads come up (I realise now you know there’s no triple time or whatever nonsense)

I was on me own going back yesterday and had to walk from the ground to meet my mate in Middlesbrough Town Centre after the game.

A nervy experience. Never knew they hated us that much.
It’s bit weird , seem to hate us , most sunland not that bothered about Boro

I went to Boro college for some nightclasses bout 20 yr back, two on that course were coppers and openly admitting how corrupt the place was then

the ones at the bottom may not get anything but the force as a whole will be pretty well recompensed for policing it.
don't the club have to pay for some of it inside the stadium and in the immediate vicinity? i might be wrong like and it's not a dig at them btw, i just think they get carte blanche to have an inflated number more than is really needed.

I was talking to a copper walking back to the train station. I asked him if he enjoyed those days as “it’s be interesting”. He laughed & said he was a Boro season ticket holder, so he missed the match, had to work, didn’t get overtime & got a day back in April or sumat. Proper shit for him

He actually said that if everybody were as canny as me it’d be an easy gig

I did see one or two of our lot creating arguments for no reason like. I mean, you’re not going to win.

Saw a fella launch a plastic pint glass with dregs in which just missed a policewoman and landed in the bushes. She didn't raise her voice but said firmly "what did you do that for? That was a stupid thing to do!"

He went on like a dick going "ooooh bewer, lock me up bewer and I'll make it worth your while."

Felt sorry for the poor woman. One of those moments when I wish I'd been brave enough to tell him to pack it in.

I had a word with one lad, he was get unnecessarily argumentative & aggressive with a couple of coppers. Just leant into him & said “ere mate, they’re looking to lift somebody, don’t make yourself stand out otherwise it’ll be you”. They weren’t looking to arrest anyone, it’ll be harder work to arrest him, but “pack it in being a bell man” wouldn’t have worked

If I hadn’t had a couple of pints I’d have probably just said nowt to be honest.
