A stupid gamble on evil machines....

278 days.

That's how many days I've managed not to gamble. It's f***ing hard work as well. Before this there were many many relapses.

I almost lost my job, my house, my wife and my son through gambling.

And I don't care what anyone says about matched betting. It is not risk free. It is merely a gateway into wanting more and ending up on the slippery slope of destruction like I did. Not everyone has the will power to just stop.

If you're like me then gambling becomes little more than a habit. You don't even realise you're doing it until it's too late. ( I know this sounds far fetched but it's true)

Well done on stopping for so long mate. I massively understand where you are coming from with people not having the will power to switch off additionally.

We've got a Corals next door to the club. Last year they opened another shop 200 yards down the street. Can see why now with the 4 machines max rule.

Very much so. Read a synopsis first though given your predicament. Bookies ban him from betting on horses because he's more clued up than them. Very good read.

It's a brilliant read like.

I thought they couldn't open so many bookmakers in a certain area, especially the same company?

Hense the reason after coral and ladbrokes merged, in peterlee, ladbrokes got sold to Stan James.

Can check if you dinnit believe me. One at 52 London Road and one at 122 London Road. The former opened in the last couple of years, the latter has been around for a canny while.

I've lost thousands

Blame myself. Not the government or bookies

It's a brilliant read like.

Just go to grainger market in Newcastle.

From memory, clockwise from greys monument:

Coral, hills, laddy's, paddy, laddy's, laddy's (over the road), done, hills, done.

Notice they're all in most deprived part of town

If people want to play on these machines then let them, got no sympathy for them when they inevitably lose
Same here I'm afraid .All have a choice to start playing on them . Same with drugs . They make that decision. Too much of this blame everyone else but themselves.
Same folk are constantly buying scratch cards everyday .

I'm bewildered to why people would put money into something that you are more than likely going to lose?

It's not even gambling.

with all gambling the vast vast majority of people will lose over time. the fixed odds machines are no different in that if you hoy in a 20 once in a while you may get a win, same as horses. for the majority of people footy betting is money down the toilet. fixed odds terminals are more about the accessibility and ease of losing big quickly

just a hobby for most. a few get hooked, its a dodgy game to mess with.

as the signs in the bookies say, "when the fun stops, stop".

While removing some of the temptations people will always find an alternative way of gambling.

Drop the spin money down to £2 will mean they will sit there for 4 hours instead of 1
this is true. I should imagine everyone has heard stories from back in the day the yards lads and pit lads straight from work on payday into the bookies and straight on a horse/dog/pigeon/two flies up the wall or straight into the pub or club and a card school on the go. I know one lad who got himself into bother last year or so through fixed odds machines.Self employed a bit of a daft lad but grafted yet went through a phase of blowing his wages, mortgage payment, holiday money on these things

im a pretty big gambler.. however the clue is in the title. Fixed.

got nee sympathy for people who can't comprehend that you're not going to win. even after they have toyed their wages in them, its their own fault.
Surely in the case of roulette it is fixed odds? The payouts percentage will be high, but just like a casino table, the odds are stacked in favour of the bookie/ casino.the house will always win in the end based on probability.

You don't even have to go out of the house to lose loads of money.
Not sure what difference taking them out of shops will make.

Yes you can lose £1000 in a matter of minutes. But you could equally lose the same £1000 on a single horse race. Not sure I see much difference.
