I don't see what your initial problem was.

At the end of ET when they calculate the winner they would take the 4-4 and do the away goals count as double in their head to see who the winner was right?

If they did that calculation on paper, it would show 6-5 to us, but the scoreboard would show 4-4 aggy

Why is this so bewildering to some people?
 
If the second leg ends as:

A win: we go to Wembley.
A draw: we go to Wembley.
A 1 goal defeat: we go to extra time.
A bigger defeat: we get knocked out.

If the game goes to ET and ET ends as:

A win: we go to Wembley.
A draw: we go to Wembley.
A 1-0 defeat: we get knocked out.
A 2-1 defeat: we go to penalties.
A 1 goal defeat in which we score multiple goals: we go to Wembley.
A bigger defeat: we get knocked out.

What would you bet at the bookies. Would you bet the aggregate score was 4-4 AET or 5-6 AET?

Well if I'm being awkward I'm not the only one. You've certainly confused a few with this one. But aye I'd take going through on away goals,whichever way you want to calculate them.

I have. Your just being awkward though you don't need to add the goals on to show an 'on paper calculation'. Could have just said man Utd 3-2 Sunderland AET, we win on away goals.

Then that was it. Instead of making it look like you thought you add the goals on until you eventually clarify it.

Doesn't matter anyways it's all sorted!

I was just asking - when the thread started would you have bet on 6-5 AET or 4-4?

perhaps it's just me but I knew neeone was daft enough to believe you actually double the goals on the scoreboard rather than doubling away goals in theory. Low and behold, I was correct. ;)

People are taking the OP literally.
