5th test the oval

Na, they played the percentages and played professionally throughout. We played to entertain, but ultimately our bravado sold us short. We knew the forecasts and conditions but haven’t got the nouse to play out an innings.

The result was ultimately a fair reflection. Credit to both sides, but the Aussies played the sensible game.
For the no.1 ranked and test champions to play containing/percentage cricket against us from day 1 goes to prove that this new attacking attitude we have is worth fearing.

Absolutely.

And as much as it’s been great to watch at times, ultimately they still took the urn home. We were spunky runners-up.
Agreed, it hasn't been complete vindication of the process but it was very very close.

I'd argue that it wasn't 'bazball' that cost us the Ashes, the declaration or the collapse from 180-1. Rather it was our preparation or lack of match sharpness. If we caught and fielded like we did in the last 3 games in the 1st 2. We'd have won 4-0 or 3-1 imo.

I was once in the Marks and Spencer’s at the Galleries and I was convinced a lad in there was Moeen

so I went over , as you do, and said hello

it wasn’t but the lad was over the moon to be mistaken as our Moeen

The Mrs just tutted :D

:D :D :D
Seen him a couple of times round Worcester. Not sure why, but it still surprises me how ripped cricketers are when you see them close up & personal.

I used to be good mates with a lad who was Graeme Hicks‘s brother-in-law so we got to meet him at various parties over the years. He was a top athlete, as was Pietersen who we met a couple of times with him.

Personally thought, although people had a point about missed chances in the first two tests.

Some posters lost all sense of perspective with comments such as embarrassment and that it had 5 0 written over it.

Never got that and said it at the time even though 2 0 down there was nothing between the sides at that point.

And found the comments way over the top

Personally I thought it was the drop catches in the first test

Yep, same for me. Plus that Bairstow missed stumping in hindsight was huge.

Good post. Its either brilliant or shite on here regarding cricket football or owt else.
We have things we can reflect on, and the aussies have things they can reflect on as well.
The aussies will be relieved more than ecstatic with the performances and results. We rattled them, then they came fighting back, then we rattled them again...etc etc. A really good test series on reflection . If we'd won the last one where we dominated before the rain, it would have been the best finish ever, but it could have gone either way in most of them tests apart from the draw

Great ashes series everyone, had some great laughs, despair, elation, confusion, ecstasy and the foakes v Bairstow battle

See yous in January for India away
Thank you for this.

Makes up for not winning the Ashes seeing him upset.

Got to love Warner will never win on these shores. Smith probably retire by 2027 but hopefully that's him never winning here too.
