5th test the oval

Because usually they’re in and set. In test cricket if you get in, you hope they capitalise.

I don’t think it’s any more accepted or looked upon more favourably when someone gets out for 20/30 mind
It’s seems based of this board over a new number of years that when people battle to 20/30 and don’t play a false shot but get out to a very good ball that was coming along sooner or later it is accepted.

However if someone gets out to an attacking shot despite scoring more runs they get criticised more imo.

That my observation based of loads of threads on test matches on here

480 runs for Crawley at 53, dare say thats the best average for an England opener in the Ashes at home for quite some time
Nevermind that, 14th best series average in England Ashes by an England player
6th most runs by an England opener in home Ashes series
Best average for an opener since Gooch 32 years ago

there should be play but it looks like it could be one of those , where it’s on an off all day

we need to get as many as possible by close and even better if these two explode and we could get an hour bowling tonight

You just struggle with the entire concept I think. The reason Duckett was picked because we have tried umpteen test openers that have failed time and time again batting conventionally. We have chosen Duckett because of his natural talent knowing exactly how he plays and how he plays has led to him averaging over 50 since his return. It has been unquestionably successful imo.

I don't struggle with it. I just don't agree with it at times. I think there's situations where you have to step back and rein it in. An opener will simply be judged on his career by runs.

Bazball worked last test to a degree, we dominated them. First couple of test there were numerous situations where it needed caution from time to time. Not saying Duckett should play cautiously, but the odd ball should definitely be played with caution

score 80 plus at around 80 balls and I’ll buy you a doubler
