I don't see any need to changes this in the near future. We have options at the top (Denly may have to go), Root looks happy at 4 and Stokes is in the form of his life at 5. Pope doing well at 6. Why change it?

I am less sure they will do this now Trev's gone. He was doggedly of the Australian doctrine where you have your best bat at number 3, coming in on hard, fast and flat wickets to score quickly. We've always been better with a defensive batsman in that role, e.g. Trott, Hussain. Silverwood's Essex team generally had Westley in that slot and he isn't a particularly expansive player. Iirc.
