4th test Manchester

The old soft signal has gone now and it would have been interesting to hear what the umpire thought originally

He may have given it out and then there was very little to overturn it

Perhaps Joe should’ve scraped it along the ground. The third umpire would’ve given it out then.

Even Ponting is hinting it could’ve carried.

Replays are inconclusive in so many of those borderline decisions
Yep the side on one if there hadn't been Jonny I think in the way would have shown the bounce.

The front on ones there's that camera effect they talk about. Foreshortening of the lense or something.

Makes it appear different to what actually happened.

Is the benefit of the doubt still a thing, or do the laws for test cricket effectively not bother due to technology?

Well they got rid of the soft signal in internationals not that long ago.

Which effectively gave fielder/batsman benefit of the doubt when it came to these decisions.

Sorry I don't understand. How can the fielder and the batsman both have benefit of the doubt. It always used to be towards the batsman

Yeah that’s the scheduled finish. But in the championship you can get a half hour on top to get a result on any but the last day. Seven down and rocking is the usual benchmark.
Ok Google is your friend and I reckon I’ve answered my own question. Computer (via ICC Test Playing Conditions 12.8.1) says yes I reckon. 7 down by 6.40 might still be game on.
