Looking forward to tomorrow. Get the feeling we need to take every chance in the field with the way the weather is looking to get this to a decider at the Oval.

You are making an utterly shit point, pathetic actually. Why not just say that you feel Tongue would be a better bet because of his performance at Lords and Jimmys poor show. Trying to put across a statistical argument when he had just had the best 3 years of a phenomenal career makes you look stupid.

I actually disagree based on Robinson has had 9 days rest and can chip in with 20 or so. Anderson's lack of runs are a major handicap in a series where lower orders are dictating who wins matches. This is exemplified by the supposed gun bats ala Smith, Root, Warner who are all having poor series

If a guy cant bat I am looking at 5 for as you need to win games with the ball as you are not offering anything else. His record against Australia is poor factually so his stats over the last 3 years don't hold much sway for me

I cant recall the last time Jimmy looked like running through a side. He is miserly, does not go for many and has been an excellent cricketer for England but his record against Australia is very poor, he cant bat and has looked anonymous to date in this series. This is fact not an opinion

Tongue deserves a go. It is unfortunate for Jimmy that Woakes has come in and taken his spot

I personally hope we don't try bazball against Starc, Cummins et al and bat sensibly and show them the respect they deserve. Our most unbazball batsman has been Stokes who has played himself in then unleashed and generally patted back good balls which is a fundamental requirement of any batsman at any level of cricket

The key will be determining a good score early in the test and not trying to score 600 in a day which is ludicrous against Cummins etc. If we lose the Ashes fingers should be pointed at whoever picked the side for the first test (No quickie to which the Aussie lower order feasted on our battery of medium quicks) or the second test when a few black clouds dictated no spinner which ignores the fact tests are played over 5 days not a morning session and on generally flat wickets even if it is for variety and to give the medium quicks a rest)
What is concerning is that both Jimmy (35 avg) and Woakes (42) have very poor records against Australia over a long period of time. It does not bode well but hope to be wrong

England will bowl 1st if conditions are in Anderson's favour, England have a penchant for a chase, don't know why but it is Stokes preferred method!

In the first test they got the neck end of 400 in 70 odd overs and declared because they knew the pitch was flat and they knew there was weather around. They did so knowing it was the only way of taking 20 wickets and would easily have done so if it wasn’t for horrendous fielding. They need to win and if they bat first will take a similar approach and take whatever criticism that comes with it.

Coming to the end of a nightshift, think I'll walk the dog, do a bit of garden shit, then shower and get into bed to watch the start, fall asleep when I fall asleep, but set the alarm for the 1900 highlights.

We didn't get enough runs and lost the test. There is taking the initiative and on the flip side there is being brainless and reckless which is was it was. If we get a re-run we will get picked off

I’m at bloody work until 3:45.

I’ve got 2 shifts left then I’m off for a fortnight so at least I should be able to watch the entire Oval Test.
