4th test Manchester

Shambolic

The Aussies must be laughing they don't have to face Tongue
Tongue's display was encouraging but I doubt the Aussies will be fearful of him. Anderson undoubtedly was below par. I don't think, though, that selection for OT was clear cut I can understand Anderson getting the preference given his vast experience particularly in his own territory.

The next 4 or 5 days will tell us if Anderson ahead of Tounge is just a sentimental, farewell pick. Tounge has looked much more dangerous this summer. Of course, Anderson shouldn't be judged on this series alone, after all he has been one of the best swing bowlers in the world for over a decade but even in his 40's, this has been a very underwhelming summer.

It's a selection based on sentiment not reality. In 3 years Jimmy has no five for, and at Lords in favorable conditions he was anonymous. He can't bat and is being picked because of who he is. Quite what Tongue has done to be overlooked again is anyone's guess

Another piss poor selection by England which has already cost us two tests let's hope not a decisive third.

5/60 in the 1st innings at Edgbaston last summer v India.
98 wickets at 21.59 in the last 3 years.
50 wickets at 22.01 under Ben Stokes' captaincy.
6/62 in last years Old Trafford test.

I hate when peoples make comments they have no f***ing clue about!

You have no idea whatsoever whether he is picked because who he is or because they suspect the conditions will suit swing bowling.

No idea at all as I don’t, however I do suspect with the Ashes on the line they have picked which side they think will help them win the game.

Top sport works that way!

So if someone came to you with the respective players stats in this series (I base on form not what a guy did 10 years ago) not giving any names you would recall Jimmy?

Eh did you just make that up? - he's had at least 3 I can think of off the top of my head including India last year. In the same 3 years Jimmy has his wickets at 21 - better than Pat Cummins the best bowler in the world over that period. Jimmy has had a bad match and Tongue has had a good one. That's about it really.

Sometimes its best to take your beating and move on - his record in the last 3 years has been extraordinarily good. Whether its all caught up with him now time will tell but the arguments you are putting forward are absolutely hopeless.

But Jimmy hasn't had a fifer for 3 years. I read it on here.

The Aussies have gone with no frontline spinner.

David Warner
Usman Khawaja
Marnus Labuschagne
Steve Smith (vc)
Travis Head
Mitchell Marsh
Cameron Green
Alex Carey
Mitchell Starc
Pat Cummins (c)
Josh Hazlewood

Is that where you're going to go with this then? What about 6 games ago when he bowled himself into the ground in the 4th innings to win in Rawalpindi? What about 4 games ago when he got 7fer to win in New Zealand?

He has multiple 5fers, including one against the best batting line up in the world just last year, so why did you make up that he hadn't?

HIs form over the last 12 months has been exceptional, his form over the last 3 years has been exceptional, the last game he played at this ground he was exceptional. He has the best bowling average of anyone is this 'Bazball' era.

Fucks sake man.

That’s not what you do though, you look at conditions and select your best eleven accordingly, weighing up all the variables

Whether that proves right or wrong is open to debate, as is his selection.

However to say in a massive massive game that selection is based of sentiment ( which you did) I personally find total nonsense.

That was an oversight. Indeed 1 x 5 for in the last year, hardly a ringing endorsement if you cant bat and have other bowlers doing the same role

I am looking at what he has done in this series against a side he struggles against. A career average home and away of 35

Top level sport is a brutal place at times and Jimmy should not be playing this week based on his form

What you don’t seem to be grasping, is conditions and the wicket are without a doubt a factor in selection of bowlers for a particular match.
