Call me old fashioned but I think making best use of the conditions should always be the first approach in a test match. If the weather turns from day 2 onwards then there's a few of their batsmen who struggle in those conditions.

I don't think it was a dead obvious call. They probably thought days two and possibly 3 would be the best time to bat and their looked like some overhead conditions around this morning. Cummins would also have bowled but didn't seen too bothered either way.

Surely you'd want to be bowling at them when the weather gets worse. On and off all the time.

And conversely you'd want to be batting when it's nice and sunny.

I never give too much credence to what the Captain says who has just lost the toss - most of the time they appear grateful to have the decision taken out of their hands.

Whilst the scoreline doesn't surprise me with our one dimensional bowling attack ie, too many medium quicks who need a bit in the wicket have we been unlucky or just not good enough

Us going at 4+ an over and scoring 300-400 today when it's sunny. Then bowling at them when they'd be going on/off due to rain and it being overcast. Plus keeping our bowlers fresh in the process.

Is definitely a better way of winning than them posting 300+ and chasing the game.

They don't have to win at the end of day, even if they desperately want to win the series.

Like I said before just makes the decision to bowl even worse.

As you shouldn't be getting people out hooking in the session before lunch if you've put someone into bat. Ball shouldn't be anywhere but full/good length outside off or attacking the stumps.

Why do you have to assume that whoever bats first scores 300? If they score 300 batting second, we equally won’t win the game. I think we plan to bowl them out cheaply - just because it doesn’t work out like that doesn’t mean the decision is wrong
