Anyways to answer your question - Azhar came out to bat, but whereas for most batters your innings "begins" at the point where you walk over the boundary rope, for openers it only begins when the umpire says "play" to commence the start of the innings. Thus his innings hadn't started and he was able to put himself back down the order
 
England boys look weary today....May be finding it hard to summon up the motivation. And the weather looks horrible again tomorrow.
