Same squad confirmed. Reading in the Times this morning, Steve James saying he wouldn't drop anybody from the XI but woukd shuffle the order. Got to agree with him, he's advocating Denley opening (which I've been saying since the 1st innings at Edgebaston) and Roy coming in at 4 (which I'm not sure would be right).

I'd go; Burns, Denley, Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Roy, Buttler, Woakes, Broad, Archer, Leach.

Yes, stick with that. Never change an (almost) winning team unless there is someone a lot better to bring in.

Had an email this morning saying there are a limited number of tickets available for days 1-4, mostly restricted views.

I'm there for the 1st day - am torn between hoping we win the toss/bat the day and seeing Archer rip through the Aussies....

I'm going on Sunday, hope to see Archer scare the shit out of the Aussies again.

Anderson playing a second XI match today, may be fit for Thursday...

Going day for a few of the days with the bairn and the brother if anyone fancies a meet up for a few beers.

Square pegs. Round holes

Roy is never a test opener
Neither is Denly
Bairstow and Buttler can’t bat at 5
Both are lucky to be in the side still, albeit some form from Bairstow at least
Buttler desperately needs runs. He’s a specialist batsman apparently
Agree with some of those points but pointing out problems is the easy bit. Butler was a specialist batsman last summer averaging close to 50 against excellent Indian and Pakistan attacks. Players can fall out of form but Buttlers knock was really important in saving the test. What would your solution be to the current batting problems?

From memory it was closer to 40 than 50.

But in answer, I don’t know. It’s easy to point out the problems as you say.

Some suggestions for what it’s worth;

I’d like to see Pope again. He looks a class act.
I’d like to see Foakes as he can bat properly. I’d then play either Buttler or Bairstow as batsmen only
Sibley I have seen next to nowt of, but potentially has something

Disagree. I've changed my mind on him opening but I still think he deserves a fair bit more time in the team. Should come in at 6 for me.

Nope. We have a five and six. We need to stop moving people around and challenge people. Roy has to prove he's better by weight of runs in country or wait for our number six - Buttler - to have a bad run.

No more f***ing moving people around in the lower-middle order: Stokes, Buttler, Bairstow is the order and until they are out of form they stay there.

He's not in the squad mate. They're prepping him for Old Trafford.

I'd have gone for:

Burns, Roy, Root, Foakes, Stokes, Buttler, Bairstow (wk), Woakes, Archer, Broad, Leach.

Last chance for Roy - Sibley in at OT if there's another failure. Foakes to have a run, whilst Pope gets back into shape - he's next cab off that rank.

Roy probably isn't an opener - but if he can't open I don't want him in. I want more orthodox players to balance the batting - maybe we can give Roy a run at six if Buttler's form doesn't madly improve, but not until then.

Interesting to see Sam Curran batting at 3 for Surrey today. Be good to see if he can learn the position and do well up the order.
