Not in the second test they didn't, we batted first! You are referring to the first test I believe. Pedantic I know.

Touche  completely missed that he was talking about the 2nd test.

My apologies to the poster

Anderson went f***ing ballistic when cook dropped petersen earlier, then he goes and drops de villiers :roll:

What happens if the series is drawn? We still number 1? Barring two or three quick wickets I can't see us posting a good total, then getting them out again and probably having to get at least another hundred in three and a half days. Drawn series seems the best chance just now.

On paper I always felt SA were the better side really but you do the talking on the field etc. But there's been nothing to suggest otherwise sadly.

i cant see how south africa could overtake us without beating us

Cant give that out imo. No doubt botham will be n saying he said all the long that we should be playing a spinner
We should be like, in place of bresnan

That's what I thought but you never know in sport, common sense dosen't always prevail.

If England want to hold onto that ranking they should probably go for a draw here and go for it final test. Barring some truly outstanding cricket that will have to be the best they have played for three years, England can't win this test. South Africa certainly can though.

Aye, I think if we bat 'normally' we'll lose, because we'll take up too much time and not get a lead. Bat watchfully and we'll get a draw, bat aggressively and we could lose, but also have a slight chance of winning if we can get a lead in double quick time.

Even if we can, do you honestly see us getting South Africa out again? Bearing in mind that Amla and Kallis went cheaply, and nearly never do that often, and that Petersen was seen as the easiest wicket out of the opening 5and is still batting on 170? I can't even see us getting them out with four pacemen in the first place!

Not as far as im aware

 If he is though

Petersen gone, still take england best part of 3 days to post a commanding lead, only south africa in with a chance of winning this one

And I don't think they'll be able to stay in for that long anyway, not if they're playing shots. Playing it safe, just getting in and taking stray singles is the way to go here, no point in going for anything other than just trying to stay in the game. If you do better than expected, maybe go for it then. Course SA have an excellent attack, a spinner and there are clouds coming in too so that will help the ball move. Very much a case of manning the fort I think for England.
