Absolutely frightening numbers

Cant spin it at all
The numbers are concerning but not as concerning as they would have been having those case numbers this time last year.
The demographics of the positive cases is important and the cases are largely in children and teens. Obviously it's awful children being ill and then there's the risk of further mutations and increased demand on services and infected children passing it on to more vulnerable people. IIRC it took 2-3 weeks last year for that to become widespread.

I see people saying the school holiday will stop spread but there needs to be caution with that. It's likely to slow the spread in children but the holidays are the period where the chains of infection with infected children could branch to include more vulnerable infection.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record I just wish the government would give firm clear messages and back it up with actions that compare. The message of wearing masks was piss weak and then there's Rees-Mogg excusing him and his friend from wearing them.
There currently 872 patients in intensive care. In Germany they have 1541. We appear to weathering this storm quite well.
Germany has almost five times the number of ICU beds per capita than us. The threshold for admission to one is far less.

Can remember they being around 7700 in hospital and 6-700 in IC and not much was said, figures have creeped up but to what they were just after restrictions were lifted around July. I get it’s likely to get worse given the winter weather but it’s not like it was this time last year when all stats went through the roof.
