Shared a lot of similarities with Dunkirk. A very good cinematic event. Purely to watch they are very well made and provide a different take on ‘the war film’ Genre.

if you are more of a purist and just want to see a more historical account then they may not be for you.

In that respect I would recommend Kajaki and Journeys end.

And of course Das Boot!

If you read up about the aftermath there were plenty of opportunities for the two alliances (Britain, France, and Russia of the Triple Entente against Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy of Triple Alliance) to draw back... this was the last hurrah of the absolute monarchs of Europe and an arms race funded & fuelled by rampant capitalism.
That Dan Carlin podcast mentioned earlier covers it all pretty well.

There was only 3 people at the screening I saw it at. That was Sunderland Cinema. However, a really good film about one more war that I’m glad I didn’t have to go to. So big respect to my grandads who had no choice other than to go and fight.
Luckily for me they both came back.

Watched it last night and felt let down. I was hoping it would show the true side of ww1. I've read dozens of books and researched so much about it since I learned my great grandad was lost on 1st July 1916 at the glory hole. The sets were good but it all felt a bit too wooden. The way they all spoke to each other just wasn't real.

Saw it tonight....thought the sets were superb, acting was really good but lacked a bit of substance as others have said 7.5/10
Agree saw it last night in Isense at Durham.
To sit and watch the artistry of the sets and action sequences etc was remarkably, story wise didn't match up however still would recommend it on the big screen.

Spooky - when we went there was only one other person in (Sunderland Empire), it was a bit like Dunkirk just about reasonable.

Bump, just seen it. Thought it was superb, cinematography was incredible.

Had it on Plex for a few months. Better or worse than Dunkirk?
Wouldn't say worse as it's a good film, but I preffered dunkirk myself

I thought about how they spoke too, felt they were too modern in their speaking
