19/11/16 - 5pm - Protest at the Murray Gates

I'm all for protests if they are done for the right reasons I just think the cause you've chosen is the wrong one and may as well shout at thunderstorms. By all accounts Short is actively trying to sell the club and no amount of huffing and puffing by us will speed the process up. He's not going to knock £200m off the price tag because some half cut spotty 20 year old son are blustering in a town that he's probably not in anyway.
Its not me whose 'organised' it. I don't think its actually organised anyway.

And today isn't the right day.

Charlie Hurley Day is a great concept but organised in part to try and engender some atmosphere and deflect attention away from what could turn nasty today. Steve-Bruce-Wigan keeps being mentioned and the club have tried to nip it in the bud. And fair enough.

Mr Hurley deserves far more adulation than we can bestow on him. Personally I think a statue should have been announced today rather than the gates but hey ho.

Also - He's actively looking to sell it? I dunno. But by telling us he's tried, it also diverts animosity away.

Look at the Allams. They've been promising to sell for months. And now theyre saying they might not bother if no buyer is found for Hull by Christmas

But today is about 3 points so lets get on with it.

Sorry my mistake I thought you were the OP. I agree today is defiantly not the day hopefully it will be a double celebration of Charlie's life and the day our season gets back on track.

But in truth it hasn't been that bad. We've never finished lower than 3rd in the championship since what 1995? We've spent the 10 years in the top flight which I'm guessing for most of us is the longest time ever.

We've had trips to Wembley and some great memories. I'm in my mid 40"s and football is important, but not as important as it was when I was 12. If people want to protest then fair enough and there is a few things I would protest about, but being shit isn't one of them, as like I said compared to some we've never had it so good.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I love Sunderland Association Football Club, but whereas it was once pretty much my whole focus it's now only part of it.
Things happen, you live and learn and part of that learning for me is that Bill Shankley was wrong it's not more important than life and death and sometimes perspective is needed.
I go to the game with me dad I love the time we share there, would I want us to be better, of course, does it really make any difference to my life in the greater scheme of things of course not.
I only worry about what I have some control over and one thing is for certain I can't control anything about Sunderland Association Football Club

Charlie could have gone anywhere but he stayed here until we got rid of him. That in itself should be enough to postpone any protest. Useless anyway, I'm sure Short wants out as much as we want him out.

Thanks for posting that. Saved me a job.

Protest at the Murray gates, there'll be a few dozen spotty faced chavs there with their iPhone out recording the moment for posterity...................................pathetic.
Did you say that when people used to gather outside the director's entrance at Roker? There was some fury back in the day.

Did you walk past and spit on them or mutter to yourself about how you were 'better' than them I wonder?

Why would I walk past anyone and spit on them?
I'm no better than anyone else who attends Sunderland matches.
I was never one for red card protests etc. I think it shows the club in a bad light, just look at the stick we give our friends up the road, it's counter productive and will achieve nothing except bring the club bad publicity.

Therein lies the rub of it.

Nothing will change at Sunderland because a huge portion of our fanbase are too apathetic and lazy.

They'd rather be in the warmth taking their anger out on the internet.

Look at today's visitors. Hull City. At least they've stood up to be counted. Stayed away from the Allam embarassment and been active in trying to remove him.

Would never happen at Sunderland nowadays.

Whatever your views on the current state and if it's protestable, the feisty Sunderland crowd of old, that I remember, is dead.

Honestly I think you are rewriting history. The Sunderland crowd of old was the most passionate and blindly loyal imaginable..we accepted third rate football, from third rate players with third rate organisation. We didn't even protest when we fell into third division. I recall a red card protest and a random protests outside the main entrance when were we pathetic under Saxton iirc...but it was pretty much irrelevant. Christ we gave McEnemy an easier ride than Reid and Bruce.

Just curious. Because some people did. Some people walked past their fellow supporters and dishes out stick because they thought they were 'better' than the oiks protesting.

And a large portion of our support defines themselves by the Mags.

I absolutely hate it. We're an autonomous group of supporters with a totally different culture.

But a lot of concepts resort back to 'what would the mags' do' or 'thats what Newcastle fans do'.

Do you think Hull fans have shied away from boycotting their club just in case someone compares them to Newcastle?

Do you think Leyton Orient fans, Charlton fans are today having second thoughts about protesting, in case someone says "that's what Newcastle do man"

Beating the mags became the only thing we'd been good at in recent years. And its kept the Sunderland support quiet. Now what?

But I didn't say that I was comparing us with Newcastle, I merely remarked on the stick and ridicule they get for their mock funerals etc.
Sunderland football club are the only football team that matter to me, if other fans feel the need to *protest* then feel free, it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

ffs man, feel like protesting against your protest so I do.
