which would tie in with my point that I have repeatedly told you that the standard of bowling in test cricket is very poor at the minute

south africa are 2 in the world. First and third are sub continent sides where spin plays a big part of the game and where the need to produce out and out quickies is diminished

So there are no out and out quick bowlers in world cricket because the conditions don't suit, but when there's a bowler who exploits the conditions when they do suit they are not any good good because the conditions are helpful.

By that reckoning Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India all have poor spin bowlers as they have taken their wickets in helpful conditions. Murali, Mendis, Kumble, Harbijhan, Saqlain, Kaneria, Mushtaq Ahmed - all not very good because they bowled on dust bowls for the majority of their careers.

I don't think anyone is claiming the standard of bowling in test cricket is great anymore, but even so this England attack still looks very useful and to describe them as one trick ponies is wrong in my opinion. At the minute this is probably the best bowling line up England have had since 2005.

Just because the standard of quick bowling around the world is diminishing doesn't mean this England attack isn't a very good one indeed.

done.

the wankathon on here is embrassing

How is Swann doing in the leading wicket taker stakes?? this was his test to get top spot, you should practice what you preach on the wickets, back your judgement and you might have picked Anderson as leading wicket taker, not a spinner

Broad is class and you know it. Hope we dont get too many flat wickets next summer against Sachin or Jimmy could be out the side by the end of the series.

What a disgrace, that our tour leading wicket taker in Finn was dropped for no reason

Bresnan is not test class as you have alluded to yourself and yet looks a world beater...says it all

Where do I start with all of this

OK bowler friendly pitches - i'm not sure if this is the first time in Englands 100+ years that they have managed to score more than 500 runs in an innings 4 tests out of 5. Probably not but it certainly will be on bowler friendly green tops

Swann top wicket taker isnt going to happen however selecting the words number 2 bowler to become top wicket taker in a series after taking 21 wickets in 4 tests in SA a finger spinner graveyard and getting the Man of the Series award is hardly a massive leap of faith. Mind you some daft bastard picked our number 6 batsman to be top run scorer when he was bound to get stuck with the tail at times in addition to Bollinger and Broad being top wicket taker.

most agreed after the third test that he looked our most inform batsman but never got a hit hence why people wanted him higher up the order

nice to see the board supported me in saying Cook would have a very good series down under in July when he couldnt get a run in his back garden

Bob Willis said yesterday, the standard of cricket might not be great but its very exciting
