We are 3 tests into 5. If Jimmy performs broadly the same in the last two tests but we lose them because our batsmen bat as they did in the second innings in perth then i'll say he had a good series. If he bowls crap in the next two matches i'll say so - i've no problem in telling the truth.
so the leader of our attack has lead us to defeat in the Ashes but its the batsman fault, even though if say we dont win another test, we will have taken 20 wickets once.
It just goes to show, there is an English disease of accpepting someone if they try hard but actually lack star quality to take us into the higher echelons of the world game.
To be the best in the world, you need to beat the best, we were outplayed in SA and if we lose the Ashes, will have been outplayed here
If we dont win another test in Aus, thats 9 tests in SA & Aus (two of the better sides in test cricket) where we have taken twenty wickets twice.
To be the best side in the world, thats not good enough
it seems a contradiction though, that anderson is ranked at the highest, he has been in his career.
his spell at brisbane, where somehow hussey and haddin survived, was one of the best spells of bowling, you could see.
his fielding is pretty sharp as well and up to 12 months or so back, he held the record for most innings, without a duck.
he is no hadlee or mcgrath but he is a quality bowler and he will be in the side, when fit, for a long time yet
batting and fielding have improved although his batting here has been shite
his test ranking before playing against the clubbies and fraudsters this summer was 13th in the world
Having taken loads of wickets on green tops in tests that barely lasted 3.5 days over here against two sides, none of which had a single batsman in the top 20 batsman in world cricket, he rose to a high career of third. He is now down to fifth...
