Does anyone remember Millwall, 1st game of the season '73 -74, just after the cup win. I hitched down with 2 bishop lads overnight with absolutely no money between us. We hoped to scrounge some money to get in from any lads we met - but the pre-match atmosphere was not conducive to such generosity. One of the other lads shat his pants and got the police to chaperone him home - we never got in and met up with what was left of our lads down at New Cross - all hell on - got chased up the railway lines by a large mob of weapon-bearing docker's sons - and finally got a lift home at 12 night on a supporters coach at Kings X, occupying the places left by some S'land lads who were attending a mate with a broken leg in hospital. all hell on along the Kings Cross road - a large mob of Sunderland headed by one lad with a large wooden mallet with nails sticking out of it.

Anyone remembers what it was like inside the ground? The Northern Echo had a picture on the Monday of the arsenal of weapons confiscated from the Millwall lot - icepicks, hammers, axes knives, etc.
must admit it was the first time i saw a hatchet in a football ground i hitch hiked down also 3 of us every thing was ok till 2-55 then all hell broke loose they scattered us from behind and basically all around the ground it was going off with quite a few s/land getting into the seats along one end of the ground and it was still going off it was 74-75 season and man utd were at orient wrecking everything tubes etc carlisle were at arsenal and won hell on all over london....a good season that one :-D

IIRC that day a number of our lads who attended had banning orders

That was some f***ing mob that was. Cardiff shit their f***ing pants. A comparable mob went to Milwall and drank around London Bridge. Milwall were informed where we were drinking but bottled it.

In the olden days we wore Sheepskins with cosh pockets. They were there for a purpose. I told Rivs of a visit to Mansfield of all places where a bunch of us were standing round our cars waiting after the game when 200 locals charged us, those cosh pockets came in handy cos they didn't only house coshes.
In those days anything goes or went and believe me it did.

Other games not mentioned..

Boro away at the riverside when we won 1-0 with a darren williams header. Went to darlo on the morning via taxi's and trains from durham.

Then everyone headed into boro.

Got off the train to be met by hails of bottles etc and coppers with a love of using there truncheons. Got escorted down towards ground where everyone without a ticket was stopped and took back to station. Out of around 200 I would say about 40 (max) had tickets and continued onto ground. Out of the walkway on the right about a hundred of boro came steaming out with bricks, blocks the lot. Honestly thought I was gona die that day, never been under the cosh so much. One copper who was on a horse was shouting follow me as he ran at the boro lot, you couldnt make it up, never to this day have I ever saw anything like it. Out of the 40 that was there I would say there was 20 or so who you would want with you in situations like that. After the game it was like a scene out of zula, must have been 300/400 waiting under bridge and coppers said "fuck the lot of you's, you came looking for it, no escort back to station". A few of the nutters said fair do's and started walking towards boro... i think I had to toss me cowie's (underpants for the southern readers) when I got back!

When the coppers seen what was happening they swiftly rounded us up and started walking to station, there was boro everywhere in escort and every few mins it would kick off. What an absolutely mental day from start to finish.

Boro has always been one of the worst grounds to go to. Going to sid james is like going to church compared to going to boro.

I remember your PM mate and I was pleased you got out of it.

Mansfield was a very dodgy place, even before the pit strikes, and there were Newcastle in with Mansfield that day. The locals weren't really best pleased and the Mags were chased later in the day.

Cardiff took a real battering at Mansfield one year when they were after promotion from the 3rd Division. They took over the Early Doors pub before the match but were scattered on the way to the ground and never recovered.
Mansfield were at them all day and Cardiff had come up acting the big boys at 'little' Mansfield.

Some bad lads at Mansfield and I helped some of them out when they came here for the England-Tunisia game in Marseille.

Saw this mentioned on a diferent forum last week, not much detail but mags holding hands with Forest again?

Some of the main faces of the gremlins took a right pasting that day.

It was mainly mags but a few well known forest with them.

The link between the two started as one of forests main faces done jail with one of the mags.

Newcastle / Forest / Shrewsbury / Mansfield / Oldham / Carlisle.

They noted for it, "rent a mob" was how they used to be descibed.

So it was always the same - my visit was definitely 73 -74 , the opening day of the season after winning the cup.
74-75 won 4-1 and man utd were at orient they were all over kings x wearing tartan we were spotted and a few wanted to do us but others said leave it and chatted with us about milwall...
down at man utd that season was lively also before kickoff in the score board totally out numbered and had to escape onto the pitch into the side we had over 5000 that day also but scattered over the ground

He wrote Frontline and he's a f***ing cock. The battering behind the Holgate in the backlane that brought about the song my old man said follow Sunderland, he reckons Boro were on top in the end. The fact the stupid tit got banned by posting photo's means he can write what he wants.

I was there ....they couldn't do us in the Holgate and althought they tried they couldn't do us in the alley !
In fact, in my eyes Boro were a joke in those days, there you are !

remember it well, I was 13 and was terrified, we were sitting down one side with quite a few of our lot women and children included, they climbed over the fences and threatened all of us including the women, I remember one knucklehead pushing an older woman for wearing a sunderland scarf, was terrifying...great days.

what about oxford away, 74/75? we had thousands behind the goal, we went 1 down from a 30 yard shot and all hell broke loose, one of our lads stepped over the wall around the pitch and laid out their keeper and then took on their defence before he was eventually restrained, someone here must know who that was, the vision of him stepping calmly over the wall has always stayed with me, he was a big bloke.....sigh ....great days

Bin to mansfield a few times with Lincoln, always been fun!!!!

We once went down Cardiff mob handed. Most lads flew to Bristol but we went down by car. About 400 of us if not more took over the city centre. Their firm was contacted and we got told we should of rang in advance. We left the ground early and the Welsh kernts wouldn't come out. We took the f***ing piss out of them big style that day on their own turf:lol:

When was that like mate?

Ireland v England was mentioned earlier, I seen a video of the seats getting ripped out and was told that was alot of Sunderland lads over there?? BB by any chance?

It's because no fucker turns out up here. It is actually as simple as that IMO.

I know nowt about the Seaburn Casuals but was around in the days when you expected trouble at most away games.
Sunderland used to take a bigger than usual away following made up in the most of lads who knew the score but didn't go looking for bother.
I think our lads used to want a good drink, a song or two and then on to the match followed by a good stop over on the way back. That's what my mates wanted.
Cos there were so many of us, a lot of home "firms" would back off/stay away from us.
If trouble did arrive we could handle ourselves. I have been involved in trouble quite a few times but it was never planned, as far as I know, it just happened.
We are mentioned in some books like the Boro one and the Chelsea ones.
As for home games, it was just an unwritten rule wasn't it that if someone turned up taking the pish then they would receive a nice friendly Sunderland welcome.
So, from my era I think it was a bit of the above plus the fact we were not organised.

That's about right IMO.

You mean mixing up times and dates, like almost everyone on here?

You mean making claims that other people immediately argue against, like almost everyone on here?

You mean like seeing things one way whereas other people, who were at the same game, have entirely different recollections?

Why don't you f***ing grow up son and start posting something to do with the OP? There's some sad stalkers on here but you're moving rapidly into a european place.

This thread isn't about me, it's about Sunderland you thick twat.

So you spend your time thinking about blokes in thongs?

That explains everything

Another one with fuck all to say about the OP or Sunderland.

erm , ive got plenty to say about sunderland and have posted plenty in this thread, my post was a light hearted joke seeing as you are based on the riviera, as i have said before, you get steamed up for nothing, I wasnt having a go at you, I was just adding some lighthearted banter..jeez

cardiff have form for that like. Even Darlo get a mention in their book for turning them massively over in the exact same circumstances you mention ('97 IMSC). I do think FV actually died that day for Darlo like, about 20 sent down - the cctv era kicked in big time.
