Ramipril

Was on it post heart attack, more as a precaution as had no BP issues. After 9 months I developed the "ramipril cough". Horrendous, just a constant dry cough, couldn't sleep, kept the missus awake, so eventually stopped the ramipril and as I had no BP issues it wasn't replaced by anything.

I was on amplodipine until January but then after an apparent ministroke ( I went blind in one eye for a bit) I was put on Ramipril, plus statins and blood thinners.

I had a bit of tummy trouble but after checking it out, that was probably the statins - they typically put you on the max dosage at first, then reduce it - and I’ve been ok.

My BP wasn’t too bad 130/90 or similar. It’s 120/80 now.

( except I now know of the ‘Ramipril cough’ from this thread. And that I’ve got it.

I've been on it [5mg] for a good few years now with the same dose. After some horrendously high readings years ago my BP stabilised quite quickly to around the GP advised 140/80 level, I also restricted my drinking habits. I bought a BP monitor to keep track but don't use it now.

I've had no adverse reaction whatsoever and am rid of the headaches/migraines I sometimes suffered after physical training.

Miserable Scottish mare must have lied. She told me 5 was lowest dose when she put me on it, I`d remonstrate with her but she has to stick a needle in me on Tuesday and bollock me cos of the state of my pressure and sugar and she`s not the gentlest of souls to begin with
By the way did you have to do the 24 hour monotoring carry on with the little machine and auto cuff you had to hump round for a day?
Yes and mine shot the roof about 530pm as we had to put my dog asleep ,unreal timing

Was put on 2.5mg then 5mg after taken into
Hospital with blood clots and collapsed lung ( they blamed Covid jab ) still take it but hot had check for a couple of years I think.
Sometimes get dizzy if I get up too quick after I’ve taken the tablet

Been taking this a week for high blood pressure. I'm 51 and run and walk but do drink quite a bit but my BP wouldn't come down.
Normally around 145 over 95. Been on the lowest dose for a week and it's dropped down to around 125 over 85 without any lifestyle changes.
The doc said I would probably have to double the dose after I have a blood test on the 17th to see how everything is going but if it stays like this hopefully I won't have to.
I presume quite a few on here are on BP after the last 10 seasons or so we've had. Similar story or bad reaction to it?
I take ex forge ( anlopidine & Valsartan) and my BP stays around the same as yours
My mother, brother and sister have all been cursed with hypertension
We all follow ( followed ) healthy lifestyles
The silent killer as it’s known in some circles

The only thing that worked was a codeine solution, but that can only be a short term thing.

Mine developed a few days before a 10 day holiday and it was terrible, coughing all day and night. I'm sure the whole flight was expecting to catch covid off me.
Mines nowhere near that bad. It’s just that I developed an inexplicable cough and didn’t know what caused it. I thought, as I read the thread, that it’s maybe this cough side effect that was mentioned. But if it’s typically as bad as you describe, maybe it’s not.

The biggest side effect I get from all my pills is a huge increase in my raging hypochondria. I think I need tablets for that.

There was a dodgy batch out recently which were 10mg instead of 2.5mg.
I occasionally get dizzy spells but I take that many heart meds, it's hard to tell which ones cause it.
My BP is spot on now, ideally I'd like to knock them on the head one day as I am sick of meds but they seem to be doing the job.

I also had the cough, bloody annoying but after a few months it went. Tried another medication and immediately got swollen ankles so knocked that on the head and went back on the ramipril. Never even realised my blood pressure was an issue until I went for another probelm and the doctor took my blood pressure and immediately called an ambulance. 250/149. Only time I've ever been blue lighted to hospital, which was weird as I felt absolutely fine. Being in resus surrounded by a medical attaching all sorts of things to me was surreal. A blood pressure machine is cheap enough and worth it just to keep an eye on yourself.

That's why it's called the "silent killer". There are often no symptoms until it is too late.

I only got diagnosed as I went to the GP for something unrelated and he said they didn't have a recent BP reading on record - because I hadn't been there for years - and it was 180 over something

I do have a BP monitor at home but don't use it as often as I should.

Mine is currently 123/72 I record them and give them to the doctor/nurse otherwise I would be on a higher dose.
Same , mine starts off at about 145 /93 in the docs and will drop to about 140/90.
If i take it at home , again it will start above 140 but take it 3 times when sat and relaxed and it will drop under 130/80.
If im on a generally good excercise routine and take it an hour after excercise it can be as low as 117/75.
Docs reckon thats fine as it shows its probably low when I'm asleep or loafing about and its the sustained pressure thats a problem not the peaks

Gave me an horrendous cough , was told it would go after a while but it got worse to the point I would almost pass out . Now on 20 mg Lercanidipine , no cough .
