Ramipril

I've been on a combination of ramipril and amlodipine for about 3 years. BP under control but I have my annual review due soon.

Everyone I know over 50 is either on BP meds or is in denial and should be.

Was on it post heart attack, more as a precaution as had no BP issues. After 9 months I developed the "ramipril cough". Horrendous, just a constant dry cough, couldn't sleep, kept the missus awake, so eventually stopped the ramipril and as I had no BP issues it wasn't replaced by anything.

I was on amplodipine until January but then after an apparent ministroke ( I went blind in one eye for a bit) I was put on Ramipril, plus statins and blood thinners.

I had a bit of tummy trouble but after checking it out, that was probably the statins - they typically put you on the max dosage at first, then reduce it - and I’ve been ok.

My BP wasn’t too bad 130/90 or similar. It’s 120/80 now.

( except I now know of the ‘Ramipril cough’ from this thread. And that I’ve got it.

I've been on it [5mg] for a good few years now with the same dose. After some horrendously high readings years ago my BP stabilised quite quickly to around the GP advised 140/80 level, I also restricted my drinking habits. I bought a BP monitor to keep track but don't use it now.

I've had no adverse reaction whatsoever and am rid of the headaches/migraines I sometimes suffered after physical training.
