If all the results go our way best we can do is 7th we did that under Reidy with SKF and QuinnyWhat's the highest a newly promoted club ever finished?
Could we make history on two fronts if it goes our way?
Nah we’ve been promoted a number of times in my lifetime. We’ve been this close to EuropeI don't agree to be honest - I'm looking forward to Sunday and don't deny it's a big game but compared to the stomach churning feeling I had last year ahead of the play-off final and it's not even in the same stratosphere. Getting back to the top table is bigger than a shot at the Europa Conference.
This actually.Nah we’ve been promoted a number of times in my lifetime. We’ve been this close to Europe
Blame Bob Murray for that.We had the chance of Europe twice under Peter Reid and declined!
People say we may struggle next season in Europe but in 2001/2002 we struggled regardless! I bet if we did enter intertoto cup and had a run in Europe, people would have blamed that!Blame Bob Murray for that.
Forest won the league. What's the highest a newly promoted club ever finished?
Could we make history on two fronts if it goes our way?
Never said that though did IOh well we will just not be bothered then cos it wont transform our club
Got to be worth a tenner on thatIf you place a treble on Sunderland win, Brighton lose and Brentford lose or draw with PaddyPower you'll get around 13/1
Can't be added to read through all the replies but what bollox you spout.Last time we were in Europe was 1974.
Sunday is a bigger game than any of the playoffs. This is it. After a decade of despair we are on the verge of European football after only one season back.
I still can't quite believe this is where we are. I can't even talk about it without getting emotional. I'm so proud of this team. I f***ing just love them!
That's such a good post btw!Get butterflies with the thought of the stadium announcer doing a roundup of the finished games and announcing European football is coming to the Stadium of Light.
Ha'way lads, one last miracle in this last year of miracles.
With Villa winning Europa League does that chance the European places? That's such a good post btw!
Beat Chelsea and we will be in Europe. Both the other teams won't win.
No it doesn't the English clubs just get 6 teams in the champions League now instead of 5. 1 Europa League and one conference. If palace win their final England will have 6 champions league teams, 2 Europa League teams and 1 conference league next year. So 9 out of the league will have European football next year. With Villa winning Europa League does that chance the European places?
100%I've seen Sunderland promoted multiple times over the last 30 years. I've never seen us in Europe. Of course this game is massive.
Only if Villa finish exactly 5th.No it doesn't the English clubs just get 6 teams in the champions League now instead of 5. 1 Europa League and one conference. If palace win their final England will have 6 champions league teams, 2 Europa League teams and 1 conference league next year. So 9 out of the league will have European football next year.
As was last season's play off final. We could win on Sunday and still finish outside of a European spot. That reason alone should lessen its importance/stature.I disagree, thought the play off final against Wycombe was bigger in context.
I thought it was top 5? Do you know why this is?Only if Villa finish exactly 5th.
