Sunday is our biggest game for decades

Oh well we will just not be bothered then cos it wont transform our club

This season has transformed our club already in my opinion
Spot on . Getting in some tin pot cup and playing teams I’ve never heard of won’t transform us . Becoming a top ten , premier league team who can compete with the best on a consistent basis is what I want . Once that is achieved we can worry about taking on the big European boys .

If we do get conference or the europa the prize money for finishing 8th or 7th will make up for the shortfall as regards scr if qualifying for Europe ie 70% as opposed to 85% ,last season the 8 th place team received 145 million from the premier league in prize money

Anyone seen the film The Hulk with Eric Bana? One of the Hulks abilities is to leap over miles and miles. As I said elsewhere this season has seen us do similar. I feel like we have achieved and grown more in 10 months than we have in 10 years. There are clubs who would deem this season a catastrophe failure if it were them. It would not have been anywhere near good enough. But given what we’ve had to endure and the luck we’ve had over so many years almost anything would have been better. A season similar to our very first season in the Premier League would have been great. Our memo was just to win games and get points on the board. We’ve done that. We even won in the era of Reid, Martin Scott, Gareth Hall and Micky Gray. If we win games and score points next season then I am very happy. I’d only not be happy if we don’t win one or more games or score one or more points than we did this season

Does anyone know what the odds are for us to finish 7th ?
Seen a few things saying getting in Europe is 20% chances so I’d imagine 7th is 10% or lower.

Just on a basic, basic level: say we’re 50:50 to beat spurs, Brighton and Brighton are 50:50 to get results - that puts us at 0.125 probability

When you think to last May nee one would have ever expected the possiblity of 7th place like

That's why I say to those who are worried about Europe, don't be. Sunderland's underdog mentality is what drives us better than most.

When we lift a European throphy next May nothing else will matter.

Type of post that deserves more than a like - feel like it needs a love heart

That old question! Jesus! Do people still not get bored of asking it? Of course it’s our biggest game in decades. It’s hardly surprising it’s our biggest game in decades since every other one going back decades is our biggest game in decades. Every game is important. Nearly every season I’ve supported the club since about 1997 when I would say I officially became a supporter has been a season of struggle and failure. Every season we’ve come up short. So every game we are fighting for our lives to get something from the season. Each individual game represents a step either backwards or forwards to that goal depending on whether we lost or won the game. We are celebrating staying up, but a big step to that was beating West Ham United at home. Had we lost I would have seriously contemplate the prospect of relegation.

Even when we think it might not mean a lot and doesn’t affect the overall outcome, it generally has.
You mean like last season?

I wish you'd think before you type.

Is the second line some kind of code?
Baffled here.

The last thing you want to be doing is feeling disappointed if it doesn't go for us. Enjoy the day. Whatever happens, there should be a party.

Last time we were in Europe was 1974.

Sunday is a bigger game than any of the playoffs. This is it. After a decade of despair we are on the verge of European football after only one season back.

I still can't quite believe this is where we are. I can't even talk about it without getting emotional. I'm so proud of this team. I f***ing just love them!

I dont agree at all, Play-offs were by far bigger as they were MUST win, this is a NICE to have, huge difference

In 73 I watched us beat Vasas Budapest 1-0 and Sporting Lisbon 2-1.

I saw us play Lazio and Fiorentina in the Anglo Italian Cup.

Can’t say I would get excited playing a selection from this lot who finished in the Conference top24 this season. A point a game gets you the knockout stage.

I still reckon Wycombe at Wembley was the most important game in decades. Lose that, and we’d have been dead and buried to a whole generation of fans.
Not as profile as the championship or potential European games, but I honestly think if we’d lost that we’d have been down in league one for years, playing to 15,000
Yeah that’s a good point. I’m not sure how many more seasons in that league we could have endured

It is for me like. In my lifetime I need to tick off winning a Cup, and playing in Europe.

Likewise, I vowed when I was old enough to go abroad on my own in 76, that by any miracle we got to play in a European competition I would go, no matter where it was, been to a good few pre seasons abroad but certainly not the same, times running out for me so sooner rather than later, I'm so bloody hoping for the stars to align this weekend

For the first match of the season against west ham I was outside the the colliery tavern when the team bus came past it was a fantastic atmosphere flares getting set off. For a 4 o clock kick off on Sunday any idea what time the team bus will come past
