Yeah, but there's no avenue to correct that as those games are done. the playoffs are still in the future - albeit, only just!

Proportionality of the punishment to the offense. Potential £200m+ earnings being removed against what they did, or at least that is how it came across on R4 this morning.

I did my best to avoid calling fellow SAFC fans thick feckers but maaaan it was difficult.
It’s in part an equal part expose of peoples IQ levels and of the failings of the English education system.
Southampton cheated which means they have to suffer the consequences. Not suffering the consequences could’ve meant they benefited to the value of £250m. It’s not rocket science to anyone with even half a brain but to some on here……….

I sort of see what you're saying, but surely (even though he's young-ish) the bloke is a grown man who surely must have known that what he was doing was against the rules and against the principles of the game.
Despite this, he was seemingly quite happy to go along with it and at the very least he surely knew that the risks (and ramifications) of being caught out outweighed the rewards of doing something so underhand.
Only got himself to blame imo

It's been 9 days now since Hull got into the final and it will have been 12 days come the final. Surely they've had plenty of time to look at Southampton to be 90% ready. They could have also looked at Boro and today will probably focusing more on Boro in the run up to the final, more so if the appeal isn't successful.

I bet Hull prefer to play Boro anyway even though they've beaten Southampton twice this season. That was way back in September and January and Southampton are a much better team since then and now (spying aside).

Southampton won 8 of their last 10 in the league and drew the other 2. They also drew with and beat Boro in the playoffs. Boro won 2 of their last 10 league games and didn't win against Southampton. I know who'd I'd want to be playing in the final if it we were in Hull's position 🤪

I dunno like. Southampton players heads must be all over the shop now a there’s absolutely not a cat in hells change the manager takes charge of the team if they were reinstated.

It would be a very very strange situation.
 
Will the final even go ahead when appeals and legal action are in motion?

Hull are the only team to have genuinely made the final so it will be tempting to hand them a place in the Premier League.

I don't see any other resolution with the short amount of time available.

Had Hull focused all their spying on Southampton?
 
Its going to cause a huge knock on effect as teams like Wrexham are going to be fuming they missed out on the playoffs potentially due to all this.

Arsenal would probably have an argument that they might have won the FA Cup if it wasn't for Southampton.

The fact Boro have been awarded, whilst Wrexham missed out on the Play-Offs all together due to Southampton cheating suggests there's a lack of integrity with the decision all together and either way the EFL did it - obviously that's out of the EFL's control though. Conclusion is that Hull should have just been given a bye.

I disagree.
If it's true that every other team has been cheated they can't just cancel the whole season., and by your judgement then surely giving Hull a bye is not fair on the rest of the division.
They (Southampton) were caught trying to cheat Boro out of a play off final place, so imo the only solution is to reinstate the club that were knocked out unfairly (especially as it's a knockout competition).
Any proof of cheating throughout the season should be subject to points deduction/demotion and fines.

That is true, I mean with Boro being allowed into the final though. For all those other teams they will see it as being treated differently. Rightly or wrongly things will rumble on for a long time

Imo the fairest thing would be to have a one off game Millwall vs Boro and they get a shot in the final.

Youd have to delay the play off final though and potentially play it outside wembley.

Probably not. Ghillie suits aren't exactly comfortable, shed all over the place and get really hot.

He should have dressed as Where's Wally. Much more user friendly.
 
All concerned clubs have played one another twice this season, they already have lots of information of how they play, set pieces etc. The preparation for Hull and Boro won't be affected.

Most obvious would be if they lose today to bring a new claim to challenge the actual procedure. It’s pretty obvious that for expediency the EFL can’t follow their own process which requires 14 days. And also doing the appeal today means Southampton are having to do the appeal also in a very short time scale and without the full written judgement. I’m sure Southampton could have some recourse to challenge that and it’s what journalists are suggesting their lawyers are looking at. First rule of law if you can’t challenge something substantively (which I doubt they can) then go after the process. Just look how long Man City have delayed things.

If that fails they could still and try to potentially take it outside football into the courts and try for an injunction. The obvious angle would again be lack of fair process which creates some kind of breach of contract of faith.

Not sure whether either of those would be successful but it’s undisputed that the EFL have had to discard the usual process to get this done quickly and that almost certainly will open up some risk for them.

Southampton know once the game is played it’s over and they are chasing just compensation after that point (Not saying they have a case but that would be their only recourse) so with little to lose I fully expect them to make another legal challenge to try and stop the final if they lose today.
