Boro have been in training planning to play Hull ….
Hull have been in training planning to play Southampton
Got to think Hull have been dealt a bad hand through no fault of their own
But I can't see how else it could have been done.

1. Let Southampton play the final against Hull - potentially rewarding them for cheating (when it's quite feasible that they shouldn't even have QUALIFIED for the play-offs), which in turns tells every other club that it's worth the risk of being caught cheating.

2. Scrap the final altogether and just promote Hull - It could be argued that they deserve that because their 'fellow finalists' are now disqualified so there is no opposition. But, their other potential opponents were denied their chance of a final place because they were cheated against., and surely promoting a club after just the semi final devalues the competition - especially when Hull aren't the club that have been cheated (by Southampton).

Of course it's not ideal, but what were they meant to do?
Southampton HAD to be dealt with and the play off final needs to go ahead (for various reasons), it can't be delayed by much cos of other things looming (players needing to be released for world cup duties etc).

Got no sympathy for them at all.
Hope their manager gets peddled.
Unfortunately I think if Boro go up it’ll always be tainted (not their fault), so best result would be for Hull to win it now (will make the Southampton v Boro games a bit tasty next season at least)
If Hull win by a decent margin, then this gets put to bed.

If Hull have a narrow win or do so after extra time and / or penaties, or Boro win, then we'll never hear the last of this from Southampton.

The League are sticking to their guns that the game is played this Saturday, which I understand due to players needing to leve for the World Cup. But a Southampton appeal even if heard today is not giving much margin for ticket sales and fan travel organisation (with cost implications).

I know I doubted this to begin with due to being away when this happened, but yes this was blatent now I know the story properly.

Instead of spying on Chelsea at their training ground this week I watched them on the telly tonight and have a good idea what their team will be. I hope Regis did the same.
Yer all those set pieces and set up in training to defend set pieces a.million and one things training is set up to play against teams and certain players and who's marking who good grief. Do you think they just run around and kick the ball about in training with no routines to play against different clubs?? Blimey.

Seems like a lot of trouble to spy for 5 minutes
He was seen so legged it?

I picked up on a snippet that implied at least two other occasions of spying, which means Southampton are repeat offenders and might have denied another team the play-off spot they managed to claim.

It can't be let go.

What is the basis of their appeal? They have admitted the charges , broke the rules put in place to ensure this “ tactic “ was illegal and even acknowledged it was systematic.
They had to be kicked out of the competition. The alternative would have been open season on rule breaches.
