Southampton spying compendium thread

Punishing Southampton is absolutely the right call, its what they deserve. However, I do not understand how you reward Boro for doing f all. Surely you just promote Hull?
The argument (I assume) would be "we lost because of the info Southampton gathered" or at least contributed to that game against Boro. Unfair advantage innit.

It was an independent body so I can’t see them overturning it.
Different Neutral independent body listening to appeal tomorrow
They have power to overturn the desicion
Efl have acknowledged this
Also why bookmakers are waiting for tomorrow's appeal before making any announcements moving forward
Complete farce !!!

Because Boro were the ones cheated, not Hull. Its not rocket science.

You've clearly not read the rest of the conversation I'm having mate. That's exactly my point - the EFL have made a decision that teams were cheated as a result of this, which opens a can of worms if it comes out that anyone else was spied on over the course of this season.

The spying happened before the first game. If the punishment is retroactive and Southampton are expelled then why shouldnt Wrexham get a chance at Boro? Not saying I think they should, just that the whole thing is messy. Most fair result is to promote Hull.
Playoffs are a different part, I’m guessing the four points is punishment for the spying in season. I’m not sure you can go any further back or you’d risk voiding the season. The fact they were caught spying prior to the play offs game I guess the efl were hoping boro beat them so less hassle. It’s the only punishment that makes sense really, the playoffs are treat like a different part of the season and unless they’d wanted complete carnage over the entire season this seems the punishment that makes sense. Kicked out of the playoffs and start next season on -4.

Ignominious for Southampton. They now join a rogue group of cheating clubs:

1. Leeds City, 1919 (financial irregularities, blackmail - they then folded)
2. Arsenal, 1919 (authorised corruption - payments for promotion)
3. Leeds United, 1961-74 (the Don Revie years of on field cheating and thuggery and off field financial misconduct and bribery)
4. Leeds United, 2009 (spying on Derby County)

Glad we are not on that list.🤣

I don't understand how the appeal will be just 1 day, given that it's to a completely different panel ... surely they'll need as long as the original to hear the evidence and judge it in order to decide if the punishment is proportionate?

Ha'way Hull
It will have been a horse trade today.

They will have told Southampton they were getting the book thrown at them and Southampton know they dont have a leg to stand on, but they do have a right to an appeal with set timescales to allow them to prepare their case.

That would screw any chance of this weekend going ahead so EFL will have said you are out of the final - non negotiable. If you kick up a stink we will push for a punitive points deduction. Agree to play ball and submit your appeal tomorrow we will knock off a 4 point deduction.

If not Southampton would be able to bring a case against EFL for not being allowed the published time to appeal.
