Sunday is our biggest game for decades

The second 2026 North East Derby at St James Park was the biggest match for years.

Nowt comes close while we are building .

It really isn’t we went down a few year back after 10 year of dross.aye it took a while tk get back but when we did weve surpassed every single one of those seasons last time we were in the prem already in one season this time around. Yeah there’ll be job losses but relegation a disaster people make it out to be. Villa mags fulham all went down come back stronger then ya have the likes of us Norwich Burnley n West Brom that for a good few year would go down come back up go down back up. How is going dowm a bigger game seriously? It is a once in a lifetime because none of us have ever had this opportunity going into the last game that’s why.
We did under Reid.

I recently had a look through pictures of Larne, it's a little port town in Antrim and you can get a ferry to and from Scotland.

Not even our biggest game in the last year man.

In fact .... edit .... not even the biggest game of this season ... West Ham home game we needed a flyer and got one

I'm at my young niece and nephews christening. It was organised several weeks back and we all said last day of the season but it will all be done and dusted by then so not a biggue,.. said me, the Liverpool fan, the Spurs fan and the Mag fan 😂

Last time we were in Europe was 1974.

Sunday is a bigger game than any of the playoffs. This is it. After a decade of despair we are on the verge of European football after only one season back.

I still can't quite believe this is where we are. I can't even talk about it without getting emotional. I'm so proud of this team. I f***ing just love them!
Nah.

Not even close.

Ballard v Cov, and Wembley last year were much bigger games.

Don't get me wrong, because Sunday is huge, and I desperately want to be back in European competition, but if we don't quite do it, I will be a bit meh about it tbh.

Been a great season whatever happens. 🙂

It's weird because it's a big game, but there's no jeopardy.

Europe would be a fantastic surprise, and it would be a tad disappointing if we come so close and don't get it, but what's been achieved over this season means it's a win/win on Sunday, no matter what the result.

It cannot be the biggest game mate as lots of fans whilst wanting us to win will not be that bothered if we lose!Win lose or draw it will still have been a fantastic season and a loss to Chelsea will not tarnish that one jot.The playoff game was the biggest /most important game in our recent history and dwarfs any qualification and run in the lesser European competitions.Ask me again when its the final of the europa!

No. There was a far bigger game just last May.

Its probably not in the top 10 last few decades, play offs, relegation battles / matches all more important. Funny though when we were 7th and were on our holidays it was said Chelsea would of gone bust if we had of beat them last day without Europe.

It's not as life changing as a playoff final, or a relegation decider, but it would be something brand new to us to make Europe so I understand what the OP means.

What is extraordinary about us is this season was us just putting together the building blocks of what ‘could be’. And that has already been enough to be competitive and be in a shout for European football. All the teams around us with year-on-year massive spends, and we matched them in one season. Proud of what we have achieved. Hopeful for what happens next…
