How can a pro ref not see that the ball has hit his arm there man.

He has seen it's hit his arm ffs . The judgement call is intent (its hit another body part first) and unnatural positioning of his arm, or not.

IFAB have made the rules so complicated, the professionals who are there to implement the rules don’t know what they’re doing.

The rules need simplifying and they need to get some competent referees.

It's not the rules, it's the way they enforce them. There will always be debatable hand ball decisions but that was handball.

They need to stick the main ref and his team in the video room and they just call decisions there if they need to correct the assistant ref on the pitch. VAR currently look at all the angles and should be able to make better decisions but the ref doesn't get this luxury. Main ref in the video room can then ask his assistant on the pitch for anything if he needs too.

It won't fix all the problems but you'd like to think a group of officials watching the video should be able to make more consistent calls. This would be far better than the way the current system allows the human error of the on-field ref to stand if VAR doesn't get involved due to the stupid Clear & Obvious shite. When the ref goes over to the screen he's under even more pressure to do something and his view of the screen isn't as good as those sitting elsewhere with better views of screens.

It’s just ridiculous isn’t it? How can the ref miss it in real time, have his mate say “you might want to look at this”, watch a replay, and still get it wrong?

If the people refereeing the game don’t know the rules, what are they doing there in the first place?

I'm sure he can see that it hit his arm - he just decided that it wasn't a handball because of the initial deflection of Mbuemo's hip.

He just made the wrong decision.

Surprised they've apologised as surely it's just down to a subjective opinion of if his arm is in an unnatural position or not. Obviously hits the arm, doesn't seem deliberate as the ball is deflected to him and then is coming off his stomach area.

But the rules seem a mess as if he'd scored himself in that moment instead of his shot being blocked it would have been ruled out no question. But because he didn't it's subjective opinion handball again. Which is a bit silly anyway that because he didn't score it's not a clear cut absolute decision despite the handball being the same.

Agreed, the rules around handball really need looking at.

There is no forgiving the refereeing for that 'goal' mind as the rules around handball in the box leading to a goal have been very clear all season

How is it any different to handball anywhere else? The only change I'm aware of is if the goalscorer themselves handle it.

This wasn’t a VAR shocker though, weirdly enough. They sent the ref to the screen and he stuck with his decision. Only so much VAR could do

Don't think any of that matters in this case as the player miscontrolled it and it was his 2nd touch.......he used his arm to stop it going away from him, no chance it should be allowed.

Fair play, but the overall point still stands. I'd say the vast majority of the very worst decisions always tend to go the way of those 6 clubs (maybe not so much Spurs this season).
