Southampton spying compendium thread

I think it’s mad that after 94 pages there are some posters that still don’t understand that there’s an EFL regulation which prohibits observing, or attempting to observe another clubs training session 72 hours prior to kickoff

Southampton had a lad there recording the training session. We know he works for Southampton because he’s pictured among Tonda Eckert’s staff. The info they might or might not have gotten from it is completely irrelevant to the argument

Fuck me. What part of this is difficult to understand?
This is exactly what it comes down to. They broke the rules. Kick them out.

He was there. No evidence of it being recorded yet.
The poster might have mentioned recording but the regulation itself does not.

Without prejudice to the requirements of Regulation 3.4 (that each Club shall behave towards each
other Club with the utmost good faith), no Club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to
observe) another Club’s training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match scheduled to be
played between those respective Clubs.

I agree with the poster that technically there’s no evidence of it, although it’s clearly what he’s doing
There is evidence. Even if every single thing he recorded is wiped and never to be recovered there’s actual footage of him being stood in a place observing something he isn’t allowed to be doing as an employee of Southampton.

With the money available in premier league à 200k fine just doesnt cut it
À 2m or 10m fine would still be chump change
Has to be either a significant points reduction or award game to boro
If other teams can prove similar spying allegations it should be game over
I reckon Soton may throw that coach under the bus ( as it were)

I’ve got a cunning plan , let Southampton play Hull in the final and give every decision against them as is seen every weekend by incompetent refereeing , nobody would notice any difference anyway.

Makes sure Hull win , all the fans go to Wembley on time and jobs a good un.

Then the EFL can sanction Southampton for next season

The play off competition doesn't award points, so a points deduction has no merit. Within the play off competition the only known rule breaking was allegedly carried out by Southampton against Boro in the immediate build up to the first leg. A logical and proportionate punishment would be awarding Boro the tie with a 3-0 win.

The football league season itself is a separate competition, as yet there is no publicly available information that Southampton have broken this rule in that competition. If it's proven satisfactorily that they have then a points deduction and or fine and or expulsion from the competition is within the scope of penalties, needs to be proportionate though.

I can’t get my head round this argument that Boro didn’t play very well so the punishment shouldn’t be harsh.

It will be impossible to quantify the true impact this has had on Boro and their players. Also you really expecting Southampton to be caught spying and then choose to turn up and batter Boro? Everyone knows how that would look.

Boro’s entire game prep will have been disadvantaged less than 72 hours before the game. Does the manager rip up his plan and start again? Does he need to create new set piece routines? How does he manage get round the fact that his opponents knew one of their best players was still out injured.
Yes, maybe Boro played poorly because Saints were able to nullify them because of the insight into their tactics, set up, line up, set pieces gained from spying. It's an unquantifiable and a moot point.
