The Pep myth

Like you say, he’s a very good coach. He hasn’t exactly had it hard over his career mind, easy gigs everywhere he’s been.
How was his ‘gig’ at Barca an easy one
Promoted from youth coach when they were at a low ebb and second fiddle at best to Real
and then went on to win 2 champions leagues in 3 seasons
He brought through 3 of the greatest players in football history in Iniesta, Xavi and the incomparable Messi. One of the cheapest assembled CL winners of all time.
He has had big jobs since because of his work then.
Myth 😄😄😄😄

Fact check:

Pep took over at Barcelona in 2008
Xavi made his debut in 1998 and had made over 400 appearances for the club
Iniesta 2002 and more than 250
Messi 2005 and more than 100

Facts matter

Oh and the won the champions league in 2006. As well as the league

Aye but other than that though….

Fergie was getting nose bleeds and had to miss a pre-season due to poor health. And he still wouldnt retire on that City title win. Big Pussy Pep going to go out with Lego Pep beating him with 85 points.

Like the Fergie myth - he had one of/the richest club in the world and won CL twice in 20+ years (both quite fortuitously)

Dominated domestically, but found wanting at the highest level

Also Wenger myth, but won CL never (only 1 final) and was (nearly) always the bridesmaid domestically

How Fergie got knighted…

I'm not trying to shag the fella, but for 2 seasons before they'd been shite in the league, and won one spanish supercup. In his first season they pissed everything.

Spain won the 2010 world cup with 7 of his team starting, they won the Euros in 2012 with 6 of his team starting.

The style of football he implemented helped make those 3 what they have become and each one of them has very vocally said that.

Aye it's easy enough to throw money at good players but they've got to click into a system and with players already there. Dani Alves was already a brilliant player, but Pep paid about 30 mil for him, which was shitloads at the time, and he went on to become one of the most decorated players of all time and completely re-write modern fullbacks.

Busquets.
