Marcus North England Selector

Is there anyone around who has a knowledge of local NE and county cricket and would understand the need to develop local players?

What about:
Paul Collingwood
Dale Benkinstein
Graeme Onions

I'm not sure if they would be interested mind (I've got doubts about all of those). It's going to be interesting.

What’s Colly doing these days? The other two are employed in coaching roles by DCCC of course so moving either of those to DoC would still leave a vacancy somewhere.

Had a few, ahem, personal problems to deal with. Hence why he hasn't been seen at Durham or with England since last year.

I'm in a close circle of friends with one of his ex wife's immediate family and as far as I'm aware, Vicky has recently told said family member that PC will be back involved in cricket by the end of this season. He'd been told to lie low for a while which he has done whilst all the legal stuff was getting sorted. North getting the England selectors job now is in the same time frame and he's been bjng chats with Durham.

Given what is alleged, the supposed ‘transgressions’ are nowhere near as bad as those of the current Leader of Durham County Council on the one topic, nor a former Prime Minister with scratty hair who liked to tell porkies on the other - so I see no reason why it should stop him gaining employment when it clearly hasn’t hindered their careers.

He's done the right thing keeping his head down and letting it all blow over . Like I said, he's been talking with Durham for a few weeks about a way back in and obviously now with North getting the selectors job, it leaves a vacancy. Don't see Paul being involved with England again.

I always thought he’d be our Head Coach one day, obviously DoC wouldn’t be a bad role for him - nor would any sort of coaching/scouting role be a bad thing for the Club.

Maybe he’d be the ideal man to resurrect the fortunes of the Academy given his own journey.

It's certainly looking like there's a way back in for him. Been a difficult time for him apparently.

Thought he left that post a while back
He's still there, got a fair amount of stick from some of the Aussie pundits during the last Ashes series for their couple of batting collapses - which was slightly harsh when you compare it to the English batting performances we witnessed.

The ECB added that applicants should have "an excellent handicap", "an irrational obsession with bowling speed over accuracy", "the ability to prioritise cliques over performance" and "an accommodating multi-millionaire father".

I'd be in a favour of a low profile role initially, Benks, Campbell,Onions and Gidman form a core coaching team all sympathetic of the original values of the club of development through the Academy- this has been neglected throughout the North era imo. These 4 would work in harmony without any big egos with perhaps Banks having the lead role as the most experienced of the 4. Colly could offer an advisory and scouting role Certainly don't think he's entitled to walk straight into a senior role

i hear all sorts of stuff, i know theres stuff about a tax bill he owes, But a few lads at shotley reckon he used England Tours as a Knees Up sex Tour, with the Odd bag of powder

That is what the results of some online searches show, minus the final point, in which case he's not really done anything legally wrong (I am sure the tax bill will be put down to a "misunderstanding") and his absence from the England set-up is likely to be down to the results of internal investigation into his conduct. The only slightly strange thing is that if a conduct investigation has resulted in him being sacked from his role, why have they not given a vague and brief line to the media confirming his departure? Either way, there doesn't appear to be anything stopping him getting another job in the game.

Maybe all parties agreed to simply walk away, after all, internal investigations cost money and take time and maybe they thought it wasn’t worth the hassle.
