Realistic target for next season

Without having any data to hand myself, is second season syndrome really a myth or is it that for the last god knows how long, teams have by and large gone up and straight back down again?

I looked at this for the below thread a couple of months ago.

47% of newly promoted teams end up getting relegated in their first PL season.

Of the newly promoted teams that do stay up in their first season, only 11% subsequently get relegated in season 2, which shows you've got a very strong chance of getting to season 3 and well on your way to establishing yourself as a feature at that level.

When you consider we’ve took 4 points off leeds and 3 off burnley thats 39 other points took off established sides. Impressive.

If we can smash the 3 newcomers a bit theres no reason why we shouldnt be sitting 7th/8th next year with a chance of europe.
Only if all other clubs sit still, which they won't

Leicester won the PL ten years ago and now they're in League 1. Spurs look like they're doing down.

It's an incredibly volatile league and we almost beggared ourself to death this century trying to just stay in it at great expense

Club stability is all I'm bothered about

I think normally there isn't much of a promotion bounce and the teams struggle. Sure there was stats going about at the beginning of the season stating how the promoted teams had struggled to find wins in the first couple of months.
Leeds and ourselves won the first game, Burnley win their 2nd

We’ve achieved what we’ve set out to do so how we’ve over achieved
If we’d won a trophy or cemented a Euro place that’s over achieving
Not hitting our target
The season isn’t ovwr
Stay up comfortable again and develop the squad. I’d like to see a bit more attacking and I hope that comes after another wimdow of upgrades. Decent cup runs.
I actually prefer our defensive style over conceding 9 goals in 2 games was a nightmare for teams ,

There’s loads of reasons mainly that there’s lots of good teams in this league. Not a chance we should be expecting 7th/8th. Exoect it if we have a good start like this one but we can’t go into it thinking we should be getting that cos it’s delusional

I'd be happy with staying up comfortably (again) to be honest.

A problem we need to manage next season is we've surpassed expectations this year and a consolidation season will be met with frustration by the usual suspects. Same people who have wound themselves up into a knot about not finishing in Europe this season but yet wouldn't have given us a prayer of staying up at the beginning.

Finish comfortably safe next year in and around that lower mid-table group and whilst it would objectively be a good season, it'll be "we haven't progressed, we need to move on from XYZ".

You can see it coming a mile off on here.

Very interesting, cheers fella

I'd love some European football or a cup at some point, those along with top ten finishes will hopefully be the target at the moment. We'll likely have to improve squad depth and quality to effectively have a similar season.
