It was more to do with you saying Isidor has done ‘jack shit’ when their options aren’t any better.

They have a very good starting line up but I don’t particularly think they have a deep squad considering where they are. They massively miss tielemans when he’s out and only really have him, Onana and kamara as quality cm’s. The back up options out wide (Sancho and Bailey) aren’t of a high standard either. Bailey was loaned out in the summer and then brought back after their fuck up with Elliott and that guessand being a complete waste of money.

Then when you look at their defence, they don’t even have a natural back up to cash.

They do have an elite manager who has done extremely well since going there and showing you can compete both in the premier league and europe at the same time

I think their first XI comfortably beat ours until John McGinn and Watkins went off. Our bench did better than theirs.
 
Purely depends in if our good recruitment continues. We got ourselves here, next step is maintaining it then building in it. We will need to sell at some point, just a question of if we replace what we sell well.

One thing I reminded myself yesterday is how class John McGinn is. In the history of the Prem he is a forgotten gem almost, or at least I think he will end up that way.

It seems a lot, but I am hopeful of 9 points from these last 5 games.

That doesn't seem too far fetched mate. All winnable games for me. Yeah, McGinn was class yesterday, much better when you see him up close. Cracking, strong little fucker.

Going to be very difficult to compete with Villa, even when our Premier League/higher sponsorship beds in, we will still be at £100 - 150m a year behind them. (They got £378m at last reporting year, Newcastle £334m, next highest West Ham at £231m.

We entered the league in a PSR (I know its a new system coming in) sweetspot not seen for many a year. It'll catch up to us as much as everyone else unless we sell our best players, and if we sell our best players we won't be troubling the top 6.

I'll be chuffed to bits if its safely midtable again next season and season after and a chance in the cups.

Edit - I'm 53 and I have never seen Sunderland genuinely solidly establish themselves in the Premier League. Even the 10 years under Short were a constant struggle.

For the select couple it isn’t as critical. The test need to get almost all purchases right. One bad window and the drop can be massive.
 
If their keeper didn’t have a brain fart last May they’d have cemented themselves as a top 4 club for years to come IMO

Decent club, decent fans. And they hate the Mags.

Unless you have the revenues of City, Man U etc, you can’t afford to buy more than a couple of duds. Newcastle have wasted an absolute fortune on Wissa, Elanga & Woltemade. They also don’t sell very well. If they want to get some money in to go and build a better squad then they need to be cashing in on the likes of Tonali & Gordon now.

The only way you’d get close to generating the revenue the top clubs do is buy getting it right off the pitch over the course of 5+ years and regularly qualifying for the champions league.

I actually don't think Villa have spent that well in the last few years. A lot of their major players have been at the club for quite a while now. I know they always say they are held back by PSR but if you have a look at their signings over the last 5 years you might be surprised at how much they've spent on players who haven't played that much for them.

Were Villa in the champions league in that year? If they were, that will have come down a lot this year even if they are doing well in the Europa.

Not sure mind. As RLB always says, it’s about moments. I thought we were the better team first half. Brain fart in the opening minute of the second half gave them the momentum and opportunity to control the game. They were anything but comfortable in that first half.
 
Think the ambition and the plans for us are huge so yeah we could deffo be like Villa have been the last few years or even bigger but its going to take time and going to be hardwork with some big fails along the way
