I’ve changed my opinion a bit on this. I was wary of sneaking into European footy a few months ago as I was thinking about safety next season. (Although, tbh, it’s the example of Ipswich 20+ years ago under George Burley rather than more recent examples!)

Now, however, I think there’s a ‘special moment’ with the players, staff and owner all ‘connected’ and I think it would be an exciting challenge to have a taste of European action next season as we continue to build.

Our current squad would compete in the Conference League.
 
I'd want Europa over the conference for a number of reasons, don't think we would necessarily be expecting to be in the running for it

But

I think we would be able to grow, attract more players and flesh out the squad for another push

Interesting how many players are leaving, I wouldnt be surprised to see another 4 or 5 in this summer regardless

The problem is, the UEFA financial fair play rules are much tighter than the PL ones, so we wouldn't be able to spend much to flesh out the squad
UEFA Rules are that a club can spend no more than 70% of it's turnover on wages. PL allows 85%

So, where we'd realistically need an expanded squad for the extra games, we'd find ourselves in a tighter straight-jacket with what money we can spend. It's a tricky one

No reason why we can't be where Bournemouth/Brighton have been for the last few years. Regular top half finishes with occasional go in europe. I'm not sure it's realistic to be looking to Villa's level just yet. They've been in europa league/champions league for the last 3/4 years haven't they?
