Luke O'Nien

And thats fine. Got no issue with it and the club have done more than anybody ever thought possible. I don't think hes anywhere close to the level and maybe I go over the top, but I just think he's a disaster waiting to happen.

His time needs to be up
It will be at the end of the season we are all aware of that but for now he is part of the squad and will make mistakes

Just like lots did today

first goal Sadiki and Le Fee were asleep and let Mcghin run through

second goal Rigg lost his man for the cross

3rd goal Alderete was sleeping

4th Goal Hume should of been stronger

But are we all calling for there heads or for them not to play again ???

Nah cos its football and it happens

Remember there is 5 more games still and I am sure 09 will play his part and he could score to get us into Europe and you may have to say sorry and Love him all over again

You do go over the top and saying "his time needs to be up" makes you sound very entitled and hoying your old toys away.

Do you think 09 himself is thinking he's battling for a place next season? No, he's doing his job

Not read the full thread after todays goal but he’s basically watched the ball for every goal. Really poor.

Still don’t understand this fit enough to start on the bench but not fit enough to start the game carry on.

In Ballard’s case he’s only been out for 4 weeks or so. Just start him and bring him off if you need to.
Porblem with Ballard is that he is built of glass tho. You can't actually rely on him being fit. We've been lucky its only been a few times since season but as he gets older he'll spend more time out injured than he will playing purely because of how big he is and how he throws himself around.

One dodgy fall and he'll be out of most of the season. We can't not pretend that's the case because we all know it is.

Its just standard fandom and why you can't take any of it seriously. At least not on here. At least Facebook is more balanced.

Like I said, its gonna be funny as if Luke gets his first goal at the end of the season and its the one which puts us in Europe. I look forward to that because I honestly think its gonna be the case.
Barring injuries it's likely the last time 09 starts for us again this season.

Be hard to score if he's not on the pitch.

Mental isn't it. "He's just shit causes us". So who else is available? O9 has done fine considering. The entitlement is strong in this one
Entitlement isn't strong as any criticism is countered with whataboutery. He wasn't up to today and probably isn't up to it at this level on a regular basis. It's ok to like the lad and acknowledge he isn't t quite at the required level

Why’s he on the bench then?

If you look at Watkins second goal there are 4 Sunderland players in the box.

The thing what gets me is how Luke is held to a higher standard by those who constantly state he isn't PL quality.

I'm gonna laugh my ass off if its O'Nien who gets the goal in the Chelsea game which puts us into Europa.
We won't be getting into the europa league if o'nien plays much more that's for sure. Mate, he lost his man three times for three goals today. He was exposed on numerous other occasions. It was bordering on embarrassing today from him.

The standards o'nien is held to are the standards alderete, ballard, and mukiele have set this season and hes way off them.

Don't really wanna see him look stupid like that again so maybe best we say thanks and best wishes
idk if O'Nien wants to play anywhere else. I think he'd genuinely rather reduce wages and fall into more of a mentoring role to the SAFC academy than go down a level and get minutes

Completely fine with either situation. IMO you just can't have him be a part of your top 4 CBs. He should be getting 0 minutes all season ideally.

Need to get 1 or 2 CBs in the summer. Have to protect behind Ballard with someone that is maybe like Sadiki/Diarra aged that we can hopefully identify in one of the top 10 domestic leagues and then grab another 26-29 year old aged Veteran who can log serious minutes or push to start outright.

We probably look at Jhon Lucumí again to fit that veteran CB position

He doesn't have to start a game to come on and score.

Because Le Bris obviously can see what I see. Ballard is built of glass and he has to be handled with kid gloves each time he is injured.
I'll rephrase then I'll be surprised if 09 plays another minute for us this season.

Only plays again Ballard or Alderete are injured.

Nah they really aren't.

There was 4 Sunderland players in the box for the second goal.

4
What do you mean they really aren't. You saying o'nien is at their level?

O'nien was meant to be marking the villa striker when they scored three of their goals.

3

And its irrelevant how many bodies were in the box. The goalscorer was o'nien's man.

But what about the players who let the crosses come in ?

Le Fee
Sadiki
Xhaka
Talbi

Are they all crap as well ??

Are you genuinely blaming Hume for the 4th? It’s oniens man that he lets get the slip on him and up the inside. The positioning initially is the problem and he should be stepping back, forgetting the offside and attacking the f***ing ball. Like Ballard did for his block against Watkins earlier. The blokes been a liability from crosses all his career and cost us 3 goals today all from similar shit of running under the cross instead of attacking it.

And that’s not to mention the goal against Newcastle, the penalty he should have conceded against Leeds (which would have them within a point of us I believe?), and the red card against city.

He’s only played 4 f***ing games, that’s some list already. When Alderete, Sadiki, Hume or Rigg make that many mistakes in a season we can talk - never mind within 90 minutes.
K I watched it back, you can literally blame O'Nien for all 4 goals. Just shockingly bad today.
Bingo - indefensible

Did all of them cost us 4 goals in a single game at some stage?
