Luke O'Nien

But thats my point, he doesn't have to be 'what we have'. We had other options today.

1) Ballard in for him
2) Hume in at right back and Mukiele and Alderete centre.
3) Geertruida right back and mukiele and Alderete central.

All 3 options involving 3 better players than him. Mental we didn't go with one of them.
RLB goes Mukiele RB because he creates things but LO at CB negates this,

I love O’Nien but he was a clear second best in his battle with Watkins today.

Watkins is an excellent striker and will give plenty of defenders a hard time.

Brobbey has given defenders a torrid time but he’s not as prolific as Watkins. On recent weeks he’s given the likes of Botman, Burn, Romero, Van De Ven etc a difficult afternoon, are Newcastle and Spurs fans calling for them to be binned?

I think O’Nien will be phased out almost by the natural progression of the club. This summers transfer window will see us bring further quality defenders to the club which will move O’Nien further down the pecking order.

Until then I’ll trust the judgement of the bloke who’s taken us from the lower reaches of the Championship to within two points of a Europa League qualifying place in the top flight.
There’s a difference though mate. Brobbey has give some defenders a hard time recently but ONien today looked like a child playing a mans game. Its one thing with your direct opposition player getting the better of you on the day but 09 defending today was actually embarrassing on any levels, Looked like a competition winner it was quite hard to watch he looked completely clueless i can’t remember a worse individual performance as bad for a long time and ive defended O’Nien plenty in the past but his days are numbered here if we want to improve and not just keep players for sentimental reasons

I'm happy enough to have him around the squad and the club in general, but having to rely on him for the run-in could cost us. He was found very lacking today and it's not the first time in recent games. He's costing us more than he's saving us overall.

I'm glad he can call himself a competent CH and he's earned the right to play in the Premier League in a red and white shirt, but he'll not be what we need for the next level. Or even our current level, really. If we refuse to play Geertruida for whatever reason, I'd absolutely be playing Mukiele and Ballard at CH if Alderete's injury keeps him out of the team.

He'd scored 1 league goal in 3 months before today
You’re being selective with your stats. He’s a very good player who has scored loads of goals throughout his career. He hasn’t got all his England caps for being a poor player.
If you didn’t think he played well today I would suggest you weren’t watching

But what about the players who let the crosses come in ?

Le Fee
Sadiki
Xhaka
Talbi

Are they all crap as well ??
No they're not. But they were far from perfect today as we were exposed down the wings. But o'nien is simply not good enough. It wasn't just the goals today. There were numerous times he got exposed today. Hes been exposed numerous times in the other games hes played.

I simply do not think hes good enough for the Premier league. The other players you quote have proven they are.

I haven't said hes a poor player, he isn't. I was just pointing out his current run.

I've just watched the highlights back and just burst out laughing how embarrassing the defending is.

Least said the better as I can't go over it all again.

Watch the Villa defending as well its poor cos they made mistakes and there is internationals all through there team

It happens move on man

Fans aren’t debating they are slaughtering 2 players in particular. And thank you but I will come on our message board to highlight idiots who react like this after a defeat
Fair enough but I think that this time of the season is when we tend to review who has done well and who has not. I think it's fair to conclude that if we want to move forward we have to accept that O'Nien is not good enough for the premier league and that Diarra has probably been the most disappointing signing (not including Masuaku). Diarra is young and certainly can't be written off but he needs to improve quite a bit. I think everyone expected more from him. That said there were definitely positives from today.

He had a poor game I think that’s accepted. It happens. I think what’s been overlooked or not considered by some is that Watkins is an excellent striker, Villa are a side that has qualified for the champions league recently and look well set to do so again.

I’ve said elsewhere I think O’Nien will be phased out this summer but he’s been a brilliant servant to this club and I won’t be hanging him out to dry over one bad game.

Eh first goal Watkins is his man !!! He’s marking him then Watkins just drops off him as onion is ball watching ! It’s got nowt to do with Rodger’s ! Who’s been tracked by someone else !
Ok
If you dont think Rogers has beat his man and got Infront of (I think ) mukiele , and Luke is watching that - there's nowt I can say to you !
I'm sure if the cross had been to Rogers - who was now free and Infront of mukiele (I think) I'm sure youd have had a go at 09 for not covering the centre of the goal.

He's played fairly well the last two games, but Luke showed his limitations today. He's a well below average PL center half IMO. Huge credit to him though, he's made the absolute most of his natural ability, and I'd say a well below average PL center half is much higher than I ever dreamed he would raise his game.

What a fkn bloke man. Getting the pints in for Red Star.

Wow that's not even English! Can tell the defensive ones that call onien Luke😂😂😂😂😂
Your not getting the sarcasm and like i said if the others had stopped the cross maybe 09 wouldnt of been to blame

So if you read things properly i am saying everyone loses their man or makes mistakes it happens man

Move on and look forward to Friday
He just slips all the time man, not his fault😂😂😂😂😂😂

The desire for a figure to blame with every single goal is a bit weird, but if we’re really doing it, number one is Enzo, two is Riggy with a bit of Nordi, three is very much Reinildo and the last one is Luke (with a lift from Nordi doing whatever the fuck he was doing most of the game, and Talbi who was shattered after supporting Habib on that chance).
