I explained my reasons in the penultimate and final paragraphs
But that’s just existing & never achieving. Hanging around the Premier League winning enough to stop up & not enough to achieve anything would be like being in purgatory. This is a chance here. We can deal with next year from the summer onwards like we did last season.
Normal SMB. A couple of wins and we're world beaters. Lose a couple and we can't see where the next win's coming from.
We’re not world beaters, but we’ve very clearly got a chance. The points tally doesn’t lie.

We're class but I'd put my house on us not finishing 6th

It'll be one of the three B's who finish there, think Bournemouth will struggle now with the Iraola announcement though.

I’ve no clue what it’s talking about like, can’t follow it at all.
It means the 7th spot in the CL is now gone because Liverpool are out.

From there I think it then works in this convoluted manner.

Only way we get six is if Villa finish 6th and win the Europa League or Forest win the Europa League.

So five teams in CL - that is guaranteed. 6th seems unlikely as Villa should qualify for the CL anyway but there is an outside chance they go to crap in the league and finish in 6th. But that means to get the extra CL spot you need to finish top 5.

Forest could get that spot as well if they win the Europa league but it won't effect anyone else as they are near the bottom of the league.

Now if the above happens and Villa finish 6th and win Europa league then that means that 7th place gets a Europa League spot and 8th place gets a Conference League spot.

Crystal.Palace can win the Conference League and qualify for the Europa League but again that wouldn't effect anyone else unless they power up the league and qualify for it anyway. Unlikely but if they do then it would again move automatic qualification downwards a spot.

So essentially the best we could do is if the league finishes something like the below example.

1. Arsenal - CL qualification
2. Man City - CL qualification
3. Man United - CL qualification
4. Chelsea - CL qualification
5. Liverpool - CL qualification
6. Aston Villa - win Europa League and gain CL qualification
7. Crystal Palace - win Conference League and gain Europa League qualification
8. Sunderland - EL qualification
9. Brentford - Conf League qualification

I think that's the best we can do now but it's unlikely that Villa drop to 6th, win the Europa and Palace get to 7th and win the conference so we'll probably just have the 7 places and the extra places would go to any team winning Europe (Palace or Forest sitting further down the league).

We got promoted and built almost a completely new first 11.

This year players will be sold and new players will arrive.

Consolidation and kick on are our aim next season.

If we're playing in Europe it will be great... but also a huge distraction

We’ve got some ridiculously hard games left like so not getting my hopes up but there’s no reason we can’t

Does either Man City or Chelsea winning the FA Cup have any bearing (I.e. would that add an additional Conference League place to a premier league side)?

Exactly..

A hard fought point on Sunday away at villa then two very winnable games after that .

Imagine taking 13 points from 5 games, then going into the last 3 games of the season.. it would be utter madness

Man United, Everton, Chelsea - last 3 games , be absolutely bouncing if we are in within touching distance
Villa isn't the game it was pre 2026.

Only Forest,Wolves,Burnley and Spurs have fewer points than them in 2026.

They also have to play tomorrow

I'd hope we can go there and win.

RLB has nee worries about motivation in the run in.

This lot are always right on it anyway, but with the carrot of Europe dangling, they will be busting a gut to win every week now. 🙂

The lack of coverage we’re getting in the national press is mind boggling. Newly promoted, favourites to go down, yet 6 games to go and fully in contention of Europe.

Either a lack of interest in our club or a testament to how well we’ve settled into the league that it isn’t seen as surprising enough. Might be more the latter tbf
