Mellborg - perennial back-up or future 1st teamer?

He's looked fine. I doubt he's ever going to be as good on the deck as Roefs and that puts us under a lot of pressure at the back but he's a very decent goalkeeper bought from a very good price. He'll be a decent backup keeper who will do well as first choice for a season or two like Vito, Pantilimon or Fulop.

Started three Premier League games, won two, conceded two, made some cracking saves, couple of dodgy long kicks, but didn't capitulate at Elland Road or St Brian Brobbey Park.

He's fine, man. But aye, might as well write him off.

It’s weird.

If at the start of the season Roefs had made the 4 performances Ellborg has made I don’t think people would be saying he wasn’t good enough to start.

Maybe people would judge him more favourably if we had paid £9m+ for him

Back up for me. I know he's young but you don't develop distribution skills much more at his age in my opinion
e.g. Pickford was better in that regard at 17.

Would be lovely if he does develop into a PL 1st teamer, but I don't see it. If Roefs goes, we need better in.
Pickford was very unusual
Even at school his nickname was “ sat nav”re his distribution skills
For me Elborg has done very well after being thrown in at the deep end -especially at two tough away games one of which was a derby.
I give the lad a lot of credit

He has done well but needs more game time imho. If Roefs leaves then is it a gamble for him to be number 1? It’s a conundrum as he would benefit from a season in the champo imho, or intensive passing/footwork training for 4 months.

Fans desperate to write off young players again
He’s nowhere near ready for premier league footy like. Hopefully Roefs is back in on. Sunday

He will cost us a lot of goals if he is our number 1 next season

He’s conceded two f***ing goals in three league games man hahahaha

You know what all this negativity is, people are still fuming about the Port Vale game and are looking for someone to hang out to dry

The amount of people who were absolutely incendiary, vitriolic, towards him for daring to laugh at O’Niens shanked pass against Port Vale was abhorrent, the language was disgusting in the match thread

When on the face of it, he wasn’t even to blame for the port vale goal, he wasnt to blame for the Mags goal, and the Brighton goal was a complete fluke

Absolutely.
Anyway the problem with port Vale is that we couldn’t score a goal not that we conceded one!

Id hate to lose Roefs but if we persevere with this lad next year we need a big name prem ready backup incase he needs quickly taking out the firing line.

Vital position.
